Is that how much it costs for rear brake pads???

The stealer did mine a few weeks ago. I was suprised they had them, the guy told me mine uses the pads from bigger engined 3's.

Had the brake fluid changed - anyone know what that costs? (Mines a lease car so all incl.)

I am due a Microfilter Service - i-drive telling me on start up.

If I change myself does anyone know how I reset the warning in I-drive or via the stalk?

I am reluctant to take it to a dealer just in case they decide to do something esle - ie. software upgrade to i-drive etc and wipe my map - so will do it myself if I can rest the warning.

If the sensor is simply one that makes a connection with the disc as the resin wears away (as per the e46) how does it tell you how many miles you have left on your pads. How could it know? On the e46 your pads are either worn or they ain't but the e9x gives you a degree of wear. How is that possible with just an on / off grounding?

The system works by the sensor comming into contact with the brake discs when they wear and creates an open circuit.

By checking or simply removing the sensor if its defective, leaving the ign on will allow it to reset.

The in-car-computer only gives a prediction of when the front pads will wear out, using a combination of the number of miles you've driven and the type of driving done (ie average speed). Use the computer miles-remaining-indicator as a rough guide only - if you know you are particularly heavy on the brakes, then obviously the mileage remaining will be a lot lower. The calculation of the rear brakes works much in the same way, but also takes into account how much the DSC has been activated during each journey. The more times the DSC intervenes, the more the rear brakes wear. And don't just think that if the yellow light isn't flashing, the DSC isn't activated. The DSC is constantly making minor corrections, which don't show up on on the dashboard.

Ant397 mentioned the brake indicator process on page one and my post was in response to that. Sorry for hijacking your thread, I won't do it again.

I just had the microfilter and the brake fluid replaced on the 120d. The brake fluid was due and the microfilter was due in a month, but having them done together saved having another standard scope performed. Less than £160 all in including the valet while I waited.

Regards

Chris

That only works on the SIA cars (E46, E53, etc), not the CBS cars (E9x, E6x, etc). There is a reset procedure that has to be done either through a GT1/DIS+/ISTAd, or through the BC.

There are a couple things that it takes into account. It monitors how you drive (how hard you brake, whether you ride the brakes, etc), and the brake wear sensor is a two stage sensor. The DSC sees when the first stage wears through, to help figure out when the second stage is going to be worn through.

I had the microfilter changed at the 15k service... the M3 has a different type of filter than comes in 4 parts. It was the first time they'd done one and it caught them out being different to the other E92's.

They also replaced the air filter and an "engine filter".

Brake fluid due in June, money money money.....
