I tried everything and I couldn't get "The Launch Control Active" to come up on the display.

It was as simple as Mal17 stated in the previous response. Just make sure the car is fully warmed up (I had been driving over an hour when I did it) and make certain the Brake Hold function is off.

Step 1) Sport+ mode. ie. Sport mode then push Traction Control off
Step 2) Shifter into "S" (not "M")
Step 3) Mash the brake hard with your left foot
Step 4) Mash the fun pedal

At this point it'll pop-up a flag and something like "Launch Control Active"

Step 5) Release the brake

This worked. Thanks!!! The car made a power-steering belt like screech at the end of first gear. Didn't sound good at all. It wasn't the power steering. I don't think I will do it again.

That's weird, it shouldn't be that rough on it and I did it twice without weird sounds unless you are just talking about the shift boom which is just cool. My AMG had that but like 100x louder.

The 3rd time I just did a standard power bake and it wasn't that much different than the LC. The LC just allows for a little more RPMs.

It was definitely not the shift boom. Might try it again IDK.

Going to bring up an old thread and hope that someone has played with it enough to answer my question.. Are we able to adjust the starting RPM? I recall in my M2 Competition you would use the cruise control accel/decrease to change the RPM but wouldn't work in the X3 M40i

Try the shift paddles while in launch mode. Right paddle is higher, left is lower...I think. Good luck!

If folks have trouble launching, I've noticed 3 things that always have to be true for it to work-

1) the car has to be at operating temp and has to have been on for a certain amount of time or distance driven... i don't recall what this exactly

2) You have to mash the brake to the floor... not kind of. not sort of... as hard as it will go

3) you have the press the gas ALSO to the floor and very fast... i.e. you can't press the pedal slowly

otherwise, just follow the manual

Exactly as laid out.

I think part of the reason why some may be missing #1 above is when the temp needle hits the middle, it's already at the operating temp. Temp still continues to rise by about ~40-45F more thereafter before it stabilizes to ~230F.
