Does your redline move ?

This is taken from another thread, so instead of going off-topic here we are.

I was told while taking my PCD that my redline would move, like this one.
It never has, and I'm wondering if anyone else's actually moves when the car is cold, and then when it warms up. It would be quite useful if it worked, with no temp gauge.

Why doesn´t anybody ever believe me?

as I elaborated on the orginal thread, the redline doesn´t move on any E90 (at least so far, who knows what future model years will bring).

Frankfurt should have a "Niederlassung" (BMW AG owned and operated Dealership)

They are usually the biggest, shiniest and nicest places with the most cars on stock and ond display.

I voted yes!

On my E90 as well as on my dads 06 750 when u first start uo the car and it has been cold out the revs are limited. This limitation looks kinda like the cruise control on that it is full (highlighted) clockwise from the max rev. As enigine heats up this goes down.

I´ll give you the 750. But I´m calling on the E90.

Take a vid and post it here.

Its supposed to be kinda cold here tonight so Ill do that in the morning.... This is something I have just noticed on my E90. Maybe this has to do with the software update I just got last week. I always noticed it on the 7er but just now on my E90......

Looking forward to seeing proof.
If your perception is correct, you´d have the first documented case of the E90 redline moving. In that case you could become a real celebrity (well, kind of like the Paris Hilton of the bimmer crowd) .

I´ll put the champagne on ice, put I´ll definitely hold it till there is real proof.

I also look forward to it. I remember quite clearly when the specialist from BMWNA at the PCD explained to me that it would move and why.
I thought I was crazy, but................
So far 4 people voted yes.............

It's a software thing????

Am I missing something here? Only thing I see is the red line that shows where the cruise is set? At least when I use my cruse that looks like the red line that marks where it's set?

in the picture, on the blue side, the "dashed" lines that starts at 4000 RPM's proves that the "redline" of your engine can change with the temp of the engine.
Most of us have only seen this:

that shows the "redline" starting at 6750 RPM's.
Other BMW'S have this feature to show you the max rpm's you should hit with the given engine temp.
When looking closely at my tach, it always looked like the dashed redline was capable of moving, this picture proves it can:

IMO it would make sense for ALL of us e90 owners to have this feature working because there's no temp gauge to see when your engine is warm.
Now we are waiting for Speedy E90 to film his gauge moving.
