Multicontour (Comfort) Seats vs Sports Seats

All,

As per other post I am about to order a new 5 series and just finalising spec. I thought Id create a new thread specifically about the seats. A few have mentioned to go with the multicontour/ Comfort seats?

Regards,
Riz

An absolute must in my book, especially if you drive long distances. I've had them in my past 3 BMW's. The new 'comfort seats' are a vast improvement on the past ones. I also have ventilated & massage.

Thanks for this. Do they offer the same 'sporty' hold as the sports seats? never had a BM before so dont know their seats very well :-)

I specified (electric) sports seats on my G30 SE. Only done about 700 miles, including two 200 mile trips, and I am fully content. They are somewhat more substantial than the sports seats which I had on my F31. I note many references to the quality of the comfort seats but I am certainly not feeling that I have missed out on something.

That doesn't surprise me. I think the sport seats are quite nice and in a vehicle of this class, BMW better not put some crappy seats in.

If the question is are at the Comfort Seats worth the extra $$? IMO the answer is an easy yes. I dont know if there is a better seat in any vehicle to be honest (outside of RR and some 6 figure cars).

BMW nailed this one imo.

OP, I dont have a G30, but I do have F'10 with Multi Contour seats. And yes, you can adjust the side bolstering as it's part of the 20 way adjustments.

Thanks for this, I am now seriously considering this. So deciding with either the seats or active cruise, choices choices...

I totally agree with 'Midwest 535i' - The new comfort seat in the G30 is fantastic.

I find the sport seats to be an improvement over the f10 sport seats, especially since the G30 sport seats has adjustable side bolster.

But to me the comfort seats wasn't any better than on the F10.

You also gets more legroom in the rear with the sport seats.

Correct. The new G30 sport seats have better back rest than before. I haven't decided yet which one I'll take. Sport seats with alcantara or comfort seats with ivory white dakota. Car will be black.

Seats

I suspect there will be some variability depending on how beat up people's backs are.

I drove with the sport seats and struggled to find a comfortable position. Drove another car with comfort seats and it was MUCH better. I haven't had back surgery or a similar intervention but it can tighten up. I chose what worked for me. You should definitely do a test drive in the seats you are considering buying.

I haven't confirmed yet (on it's way) but what I understand is that they even automatically adjust to firm up the side bolstering when you change the car into Sport mode.

i have also taken the view that if you want to specify fully electric and lumbar support, then the price of comfort seats is not much more than adding thise two so in that scenario seems a no brainer as well in my opinion.

Neither the sport seats nor the multi-contour seats are the same on the F10 and the G30, so I think people need to try them on the G30. You can't really know what they feel like based on the F10...

Comfort/multi-contour seats are the best there is. The only reason to not chose them is if you're price-sensitive.
They can be configured nearly as "sporty" as the sport seats if you want to.

Also, the new sport seats are not good at all for at least my body type. My shoulders align with the top of the back of the seat but the seat is not "flat" (for lack of a better word) there resulting in the back of the seat pushing my shoulders forward resulting in a position that somewhat "hunched" forward which will for me result in back pain after a while of driving.
I ordered the comfort/multi-contour ones...

But try both (for some time) before ordering is my recommendation.

I'm slim fit and today I sat on the M Package sport seats . Those seats didn't feel comfortable to me at all, bolsters were intrusive but I can't say I didn't find them cool though

So are people also speccing Nappa leather when they go for comfort seats or just sticking with Dakota? I'm already over budget but I love the Nappa in my E63 as it really lifts the interior quality to another level

I am going to order comfort seats but as much as I really love the nappa, need to restrict my budget.

Had sports seats in f10. Now comfort in g30. There's a huge difference. The suppleness and softness in addition to adjusting and customizing to your needs is great. Also remember you get electronically adjusting steering wheel that goes up for easy access every time engine is switched off. both the driver and front passenger get two memory settings each. I am glad I chose comfort. If you add those memory features to sports, the price is similar.

I have Dakota Cognac with comfort. They are pretty soft and comfy.
