Update!

After shopping around for new, thought about financing, then toyed with leasing, looked at preowned. The 3 series was a little less than the 5 series but I felt like the 5 was more comfortable. Like others have mentioned, the seats were better than the 3.

I looked at a lease yesterday for a 540i drive with M sport package and shadow line. They told me it would be about $1050 with $5k down and told them I had to think about it. They ended up reaching out today and offered $800 for 39 months 3k down with 12k miles. They took off around 6k and I thought it was decent. First time leasing so we will see how it goes.

Thank you everyone for chiming in and giving your 2 cents, it was much appreciated!

I really liked this car until I saw the backseat. For kids it would be a deal breaker 😩.

that's what you'd call a deal!

have fun the 540 is luxe powerful reliable and only sips fuel no matter how you drive it. when i drive the 6 cylinder like a maniac foot hard to the floor and using the lowest gears possible for the highest revs i can't even hit the fuel consumption of the 8 cylinder driven gently (well one has over 10,000kms and one as only 2000 kms maybe that's why but other than that i'm out of ideas)

I wasn’t sure if that was considered a good deal or not lol. I kept hearing it is not a good time to lease. But $250 off what they were originally offer seemed worth it to me lol. Just hope I didn’t make a mistake turning in the 22’ x3 m40i. I still hate SUVs though lol.

Lol those 8 cylinders are no joke when driven aggressively. My husband is getting about 19 mpg on the X5 M50i which I think is pretty good 🙃.

You will love it! Now having the 8 cyl M550 is great and I have no regrets but it hasn’t at all taken away any appreciation I have for my former 540. You’re really going to enjoy it.

And even if the space difference is negligible, I think you made a good move going 5 over 3 for a family car. It’s just more comfortable, the interior overall quality is better, and the trunk is bigger. Which matters for all the crap you have to lug around at times.

Since you’re used to the sportier drive, I suggest dialing in the “Sport Individual” drive mode to your liking for a more exciting daily drive. Sport plus isn’t that convenient for every day driving.

Post some pictures of the new ride when you get it. Congrats!

With the G60 coming, I think they’re very motivated on moving the last of the G30 models. Sounds like you got a good deal, relative to what they originally offered you. Nice job.

Thank you! I was a little bummed about not getting an “M performance model” but after test driving a 2021 used m340i and seeing how much it rattles after a few years of wear, I thought the 5 was deff better quality and more comfortable. Trunk space is deff important when you have kids and have to sometimes lug around the stroller. If we would forget to take the stroller out in the macan before doing groceries, half of them would end up in the back seat 😵‍💫.

What settings do you recommend for the sport individual? I don’t think I ever tinkered with that setting in the x3 as I just always had it in comfort with the occasional sport plus.

Here’s some pic of it on the lot 😊.

Up to you and I suggest you explore it for yourself. But personally, I always used sport setting for engine, transmission, and steering with comfort damping.

I ended up getting a lease for the 540i with M sport and shadow line for 39 months $3k down $800 with 12k miles. Not sure how good or bad that is but it was less than what I was looking at paying for a financed CPO’d one.
Bmw has an excellent lease program for loyalty members in March the 39m program being offered on the 540 and x5 40. There is a huge improvement on the MF - .00145 instead of .00185. And the residual is the same 52% for 10k miles despite being 39 instead of 36 months.
Long story short this lease in March is probably 200 bucks better than a non loyalty lease or compared to last month. So even if you got the car at msrp you are well ahead of prior pricing.

It was a good time to get the car!

Wasnt the RV much higher back a couple of years ago? I recall it was something like 57-58%

Oh sorry I was quoting the x5 40 RV. The 540 is higher. Somewhere around that number. My point was only to say the RV is the same for the 39 as the 36 further lessening the monthly payment relative to 36m program.

Thank you everyone for chiming in and giving your 2 cents, it was much appreciated!
Only negative I would point out about a 39 month lease is you will have to pay registration for the year even though you only use it for 3 months. Otherwise congrats and enjoy.

But can’t you just transfer the tags to the new one and not pay the full cost twice? Or is it different for leasing? In TN if you buy a car and have a certain amount of time left, you can pay a lesser fee to transfer the tags.

That is what I saw after googling that this month’s programs were very agressive and the best they’ve seen for the past couple of months. Originally they had told me it was $1050, so the $250 drop was welcome, even though it won’t be an LCI ☹️. Looks like they dropped about $6k from MSRP. Thank you!
