2020 G30 question

Can anyone with a 2020 tell me what the USB port connector type is inside the center console? Not the one by the cup holders (which I'm pretty is a USB-C) but in the console itself. I swear I had read it was still USB-A but I was browsing the online manuals (for the M5, specifically, but it should be the same) and it lead me to believe they were both USB-C.

It's not a big deal, just that my music is on a USB stick and I was looking to know if I need an adapter when I go to pick up my car.

If no one replies with the answer, when you pick up your car, please come back and update this thread with the answer. I'm sure others looking to upgrade soon or in the future would like to have this information, too.

I don't yet have my 2020 530e so I can't be authoritative on this, but from what I have read of the manual the 2020MY is all USB-C with no USB-A ports in the car.

I am happy with that as I don't want any USB-A ports around, but I know that may not be an opinion shared by all.

Hmm odd, I also read it should be an USB-A left there for easier backwards compatibility. I'll get mine next week so we'll see.

That's what the manual lead me to believe as well, but I swear the packet from BMW that dealer had on the '20s said just the cupholder one was changing.

Ultimately I don't care too much, I just need a place to plug in my USB stick. I can get an adapter and all is well - just not a big reason to get an adapter if I don't need it.

It's a USB-C (that's what I was told a month or two ago). I was a bit surprised they'd be using them already, but I'm not complaining. Everything really just needs to go to USB-C so we can have a universal connection!

I very much prefer USB-C but the vast majority of USB sticks are USB-A still (and I think will remain that way for a long time). Most of my cables are USB-A to USB-C because all my computer equipment is A and my mobile devices are C. Ahh well, I guess I need a convertor.

Thanks.

They’re all USB-C.
I recommend this, instead of adapter. It’s both USB-C and old USB-A... So that you can use it anywhere.

I've seen those,thanks.

I'll need to look at what the console looks like before I do anything other than buy an adapter. I wouldn't want a lot of weight handing from a USB port in my car, considering the crappy roads I drive over on a daily basis.

Thanks for the photos. But wow, isn't it scary to have that USB-A port facing upwards AND that close to the cup holders? Or maybe that port is waterproof like some cellphones?

That's the opposite of what I expected. Still, thanks for the info.

Lol. Have to tell the front passenger that he/she is sitting in a dry zone as well. No drinks allowed.

I personally think that no ports should face upwards unless the port is designed to catch something falling from the sky.

Thanks for the Sharing. Great to see the new 2020 model comes with USB C. How about the dashboard and iDrive? Is it based on the newer iDrive 7.0 with Live Cockpit Professional?

How about the Li Battery? Have you tested the full electric range yet? Any Xtraboost feature on the iDrive screen?

Lots of questions from a newbie... I'm expecting to get a G30 530e M-Sport soon. but I'm still undecided whether to put that on hold and wait for the 2020 model in my country.

I've thought the same thing and not just with USB ports...I noticed a few "rollouts" back where BMW moved the 12 volt (cig) socket into cup holder area and I wondered who in the H3LL thought that was a good place to put an electrical outlet. They've obviously never accidentally spilt anything inserting or removing a drink from a cup holder.

To make it worse...people don't just drink water. If the drink has sugar in it...when it evaporates...it will leave a sticky residue. So even if the socket has been waterproofed...it hasn't been "sugar-proofed".

All 2020 5 series have IDrive 7 and the new live cockpit.

The only 2019 you can get now are those remaining on dealer lots, which might be great if you're looking for a deal. As far as 2020 is concerned, some people dislike the new live cockpit and/or IDrive 7. YMMV

A bit more like iDrive 7 lite.

Here's what known to be missing from 2020 G30:

No remote software update

No reverse assist

Driver Assist plus is not the Pro version seen on G05, etc.

No digital key option

No remote start option

...

I assume Perpendicular Parking Assist works on the MY2020 as it worked smoothly on the MY2019 530i I test drove before ordering my MY2020 530e.

I spent some time with ID7. Not impressed.

You must be referring to parallel park assist. Perpendicular is straight in parking and the G30 doesn't support this, not even the 2020. Seems some modules need to be upgraded to add support for this. That'll come for 2021.
