540i MPPSK Questions

I recently purchased a 2018 540i xDrive. I know I want to do an exhaust and tune. After some reading, I think the MPPSK might be a good fit. Anyone have any experience with this on the G30 540i/xDrive? The kit (P/N: 11122444214) seems to include a torque converter replacement...the odd thing is the 340i/440i which uses the same 8HP50 transmission doesn’t require this torque converter replacement? I’m wondering why the 540i requires a new torque converter? Surely, the install for the torque converter is going to be quite expensive...thus, I’ve been thinking of just getting the MPE and going with a JB4 tune. What do you guys think?

Bite the bullet - get the kit. At least that way you have factory backup and the appropriate coding for gauges in iDrive etc. I sat on the fence for year and eventually did it - thoroughly enjoy it.

Cost wise - it's like anything from BMW (hugely overpriced). When you see what's currently happening on the B58 front with the Supra folks, it kind of makes you wonder how BMW has been pulling the wool over our eyes in terms of upgrades for this motor. If you're more adventurous, you'll be able to get a ton more power from this motor for similar dollars to the MPPSK.

My main concern is with the torque converter. Does any one know the exact reason why BMW requires replacing the torque converter on the 8HP50 specifically for the B58 motors on the 540i/xDrive only? That's my only concern with going the JB4, etc. route. I don't mind paying $2500 for the parts and tune, I'm just curious as to why the torque converter also needs replacemen

If you have a warranty I’d pass on the tune. Loads of isssues on this and the M5 board about catastrophic engine failures after a tune and BMW will know. Just be aware of what your getting into before you leap.

I have wondered this and cannot find an answer. All we know for sure is that BMW must know something as the TC swap is not something they do with other B58 MPPSK's - they must have a reason.

I now the G30 MPPSK is quoted at a slightly higher bhp/tq than the F30 B58 MPPSK, but its not much. Perhaps the additional weight & just slightly higher tq figure is enough for them to think that with the G30, an uprated TC is more likely to be required...

My guess is that the MP converter has a slightly higher stall so that it brings the turbo online quicker and perhaps some better internals to handle heat buildup better. In the era of muscle car mods and tune, that's typically one of the first things you usually did (i.e. Get the motor into the peak power band as quick as you can). Granted that was back in the days when everyone had only 3 gears to play with. Not so much of an issue these days, when you have an eight speed box

I can't speak from experience because I have an M550i but the overall impression I get from people with 540i and 550i that have the MPPSK is that they are very underwhelmed.

I can't give you any specifics but I think if you search these forums enough you'll find the same thing. And it's overpriced.

I'd look at Remus Exhaust.

I looked into this when I had the MPPSK added to my G31.

Interestingly....if you look at Realoem the STANDARD Torque Converter weighs 16.5Kg.....whilst the MPPSK Torque Converter weighs 14.5Kg. This may not be accurate and could be misleading. So it maybe changed to make the engine rev faster with the lighter TC. It maybe more 'geared' (excuse the pun) to fast response as opposed to economy.

I also read up on TC on the internet and it seems there are different characteristics in terms of slip etc, depending on how you want to transfer a certain engine speed into the transmission.

Anyway I would buy the MPPSK again. The exhaust is getting deeper and louder the more miles I put on the car. My G31 is definitely faster than my wife's G30 despite being heavier.

So as an owner of 540xi mppsk. For over a year. (14000 kms)
I do not recomend it for 2 reasons
1stly - drone. Around 2000-2400 that means around 130-140kph its realy anoying and U can feel it under your armrest.
2ndly - no valve. Its to quiet even under heavy acceleration. What is more our downpipe has 600cell so it has a lot of preasure after the turbo.
On dyno mine had 350hp!! and 500nm so not so impresive.
0-100 changed form 4.9 to 4.8 and 100-200 from 13 to 12.8
Now woth dte box is 4.5 and 11.3 woth 410hp and 600nm.
I recomend MppSK because:
1stly it feels much faster (it is not) and is much louder that stock one.
2nd looks better

But all in all I would rather take remus exhaust with extra flap conector for less money... remus is louder with open flap and same as stock with closed. I dont know if it drone or not.
Mppsk is just to expensive for what is offering.
Now 9.09.19 i will be putting full armytrix with 200 cell dp and proper tune so we will see what we can achive

Sorry for realy bad english but I tryied
