If you have a 17-19 you have a DVD slot. Put one in. If you don't have a DVD slot you need to copy some video to a USB stick and insert into a USB port. Then in iDrive entertainment select the USB drive.

active is the name of the brand. They offer catted downpipes, it uses EPA-approved cats, and comes with a no check engine light guarantee.

warranty is only affected if you are asking the dealership for a free repair and they think your tuner caused the damage. Run the recommended JB4 map and you will not have any issues.
You can also remove the Jb4 before your visit and you will be fine.

I'm looking for a tuner to bring the car to life not pump it up for street racing. Would I be better off with one of the simple inline products or something more expensive like the JB4? What is the primary differences between the two?

I recommend the Jb4. It differs from other piggyback with all the additional features it offers, including safety failsafes.

The Jb4 works fr a simple stage 1, set it and forget it map, and also allows you to custom-tune if you want the max power.

JB4 if you want more flexibility in the future/higher output. Or JB+ if you are on a budget.

As for the warranty, since I work for BMW, I don't want to be making statements, that could be used against me later. BMW has become more strict recently about mods. They are flagging any abnormal boost levels and might decline your warranty if something bad happens later on.
JB4 is by far the most significant one on the list. Drop in filter and muffler are dealer friendly, so don't worry about these two. Downpipe can't really break anything in your car either, so it's fine too.
In reality, our engines are very reliable and can take high levels of boost. JB4 has proven to be a "safe" and powerful option for years, just don't switch between maps blindly.
Do I recommend these mods? Absolutely!

I agree with you but, another great option is BM3 stage 2 93 and a Evloution Racewerks downpipe. this combo is a really nice upgrade. Now I'm waiting for my Dinan catback exhaust.

Hey man, there is really not much available to add HP without sacrificing the warranty (jb4 or any other engine tunes). K&n filter and downpipe will barely add any performance without an engine tune. You can start with something light like a jb+ that will add a moderate boost in performance without stressing the engine much.
