I know they didn't publicly say iDrive7 in the releases, but the Live dash and the Driving Recorder option kinda gave it away. I doubt they could combine both those with iDrive6.

It may even be a stretch to combine the new engines (DME) with the older iDrive. The modules all talk to each other.

We shall see soon enough.

They don't the Driving Recorder publicly or privately - it is not listed in the list of cars supported.

Not sure what engine you are talking about, but a horsepower increase due to larger turbos had zero to do with iDrive.

The N63tu3 (in the 850 and forthcoming 550) have only larger turbos? Are you sure?

High pressure fuel injection
Redesigned crankcase and cylinder heads
Redesigned cylinder ignition
Redesigned intake
New cooling

And yes, the DME and the 17+ other modules in the car all talk to each other, one way or another, over Canbus. Doing an engine change with some new module hardware/software does impact other modules in the car. Believe it. Or don't.

But, do they necessitate an iDrive software change is the issue. We will know soon enough.

The Drive Recorder I thought clearly stated it's NOT coming to the 5-series.

Drive Recorder is "available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, new BMW X5 and new BMW X7"

Sport exhaust

I can't see mentioned anywhere if it will have the same sport exhaust as the 850.

not mentioned, most likely not. check out my recent thread, the main diff. between the m850 and m550i are the resonators, so if you remove the m550i resonators it will sound like the m850i. Check out my videos..

I would be shocked if they did. the 5 series shouldn't be as loud. it's still targeted at luxury sedan market who want the big engine, many buyers I imagine would not want it if it sounded so loud.

That’s great news about the updated V8 engine but I’m disappointed that there is no mention of a LSD.

I don't see why it wouldn't. If in comfort mode it's quiet and only gets load in sports mode, then that would be perfect. Maybe I'm not understanding something. What's the big deal for not including it in the new 5?

probably same reason why not making MPPSK sound by default in 3/4 series back then, just different demographic/audience

I have the MPPSK on my 340i, it's VERY loud even in comfort mode. I wouldn't get the M550i if was missing the resonators. the quietest the MPPSK gets is notably louder than the loudest the stock exhaust has in sport. and Sport is pretty absurd and mostly unusable unless you feel like pissing everyone off around you.

Most people buying luxury sedans don't want all that noise.

Well...i drive 2019 M5 comp and few days ago i pickup brand new X5 Msport with idrive 7....
Beside few bugs, like when you use apple car connection, every time you use different car key,you lose connection and then you need to reinstall and again connect your iphone..not much to say...live cockpit for is not cool...even more its not bmw style..so for me idrive 6 and old cockpit all the way.

This statement is somewhat confirmed by the updated (UK) configurator, clearly showing Live cockpit and ID7 on the G30, see attached screen shot.

I know people with the TU2 engine who have not had a single issue including no need to add oil. Maybe they're not aggressive enough with the accelerator. Lol.

the 2020 gets the new engine, the new dash, laser lights, ID7 - is that correct? based on those pics looks like hte dash was brought up to date too. What's left for a LCI short of some minor body tweaks?
