MY2022 retrofit wireless charger

Hi folks

Just picked up my 2022 M550 which along with most other MY 2022 models, doesn't have the wireless charger due to the chip shortages. Has anyone used the following or can recommend anything similar, that perhaps has fast charging?

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-2017...s%2C176&sr=8-4

Thanks

Hope it works better then the built in unit. My 2018 has wireless charging I swear the phone loses battery when in the charger.

Anyone know of a nicely designed wireless charger unit made to measure for inside the arm rest? Built to seamlessly fit don't mind using the USB port.

I agree the current setup behind cup holders is crap it's a phone cooker would like a secondary option in the armrest.

Also handy on trips with the wife so we can both charge.

The BMW wireless charging pad is close to useless, so don't sweat not having it. Any of the larger phone today such as an iPhone Pro Max of the last 5 years will not fit with even the slimmest case on it and if you do get a super thin case and get it in there it's a challenge to get it out it's so tight. The other issue is heat. When I take my case off my Max phone to charge it in there it overheats in a matter of minutes. It's a poorly ventilated area. Just a poor design overall. BMW does a lot right, but sometime "trendy" options go the wayside in terms of engineering. See cup holders in the E38 and E39.

In terms of that product, I followed someone who bought it a while ago from Ali Express before it was on Amazon. It did not fit. I'm trying to remember the circumstances but it was a matter of seconds trying to install it before returning.

Since it Amazon Prime I might give it a shot and return if there are issues. The door certainly won't close with it in.

EDIT: I just remembered, I am pretty confident this will not fit cars that have the wireless charging pad. It needs to sink deep into that area to fit.

I might as well give it a go. I find the tray without the wireless charger too deep and keep bumping the shutter to close and disturbing my coffee when it bumps it.

Keep us posted. I am curious how it works from a charging perspective.

If you have a newer model iPhone with Magsafe, I use a 15W USB-C power plug in the compartment and an Apple mage safe charger. You can Velcro it somewhere in the center compartment to your liking. I do this on my E39 too, but more on a phone holder.

Alright folks I just got the charger and you know what? It works damn great. Fits the tray (a tray without the OEM charger of course) like a glove and supports fast charging speeds of 7.5w and 10w too (I believe iPhone over Qi only supports a max of 7.5w). In addition, the iPhone 12 Pro 'locks' onto the wireless charge way more than the OEM wireless charger in my last BMW as there's less wiggle room.

I also like the fact I can power off the charger in case the phone overheats with CarPlay.

Very impressed by this Chinese made accessory!

Follow up question regarding the 12v power... does it turn off after a period of time after locking the vehicle? When I left the wireless charger on I noticed it remained powered up even after locking the vehicle.

Has anyone attempted to retrofit their new-ish (2022 or newer G30 that did not arrive from the factory with OEM wireless changing) with a new/used OEM wireless charger?

I believe the part # is: 6801509 / 51166801509.

I haven't.
I thought I'd miss the feature but my S22U Ultra might be too big for the space available. I use Android Auto and it does suck a good bit not battery so I keep it charged with a wire. I think it charges at 10-15W which is a lot better than the 5W the OEM wireless charger does, if I'm not mistaken.

I honestly wouldn’t bother. It doesn’t work very well at all. Frankly, the most I think it does is hold a current charge steady. I don’t think it actually increases battery charge at all. If it does, it’s very slow. I have a lightning charger plugged into the port inside the center console. When I want a charge, I open one side of the console and pull the cord out and just set the phone there in the center.
