Switch off screen for cleaning

Maybe a stupid question but how do I turn off the dash so I can clean it.

It so damn hot any cleaner evaporates too quickly to allow me clean it properly even immediately after starting the car.

Any advice much appreciated, will it switch off after a certain time if I don't start the car?

Leave the car on for a while and then it will turn itself off until you hit the buttons to wake it up. Easier if you can leave the doors open so you can clean it when it does without waking the car up again.

Leave the FOB behind in the house or something far from the car and clean it while off.

You should be able to hit the option button on the lower right of the iDrive controller, you'll see help and turn off screen options. I know this works for iDrive 7, and I think also for iDrive 6

Still can't get the instrument panel to shut off for proper cleaning.

Left the car open without hitting start button for 20 mins stayed lit.

No options to turn off in iDrive although you can switch off idrive screen but that's not a problem when cleaning.

Also tried holding down idrive button but that only reboots idrive screen.

Anyone have a sure fire way to have the car go to sleep even with the door open and the instrument panel to switch off.

Maybe I need to lock myself in the car for 15 mins guess that could work but I bet the alarm goes off 😂

The damn thing is too warm any cleaning methods dry too quickly before I can wipe off and leaves horrible streaks.

Any advice much appreciated. BMW obviously we're not thinking ahead.

So you tried holding volume button for 3 seconds (release as soon as the screen turns off). Its odd, US car turns off both screen and cluster.

You're prob right about staying in the car, though id say, dont lock it. The ECU still go to sleep even if you dont lock it. Takes less than 15, prob around. 6-7 minutes

Yes holding the button down only turns off the idrive screen not the instrument screen.

I doubt you can turn off the instrument screen re Speedo etc with a gesture but if so how did you do this.

My mistake, I thought “dash” was referring to the central screen. No idea on the instrument cluster unfortunately. Though I must say I don’t have any issues cleaning it with a microfiber and a small spray of interior cleaner on the cloth. I don’t have any fingerprints there so it’s usually just a bit dusty.

As an aside, I do like to use a gesture for turning off the central screen at night to give my eyes a break.

SOLVED!!

So if you unlock hop in and then lock yourself in screen switches off.

Cleaning the screen give me nightmares so I did some research.

I got a great new product an e-cloth for glass just add a drip of wanter and it cleaned every piece of grease or previous product off and doesn't scratch - highly advise anyone cleaning car LCD instrument panels to get one from Amazon they are much cheaper then a scratched panel.

Also great on laptops.

Norwex makes a similar glass cloth where you just add water. It's purple if you google or Amazon it. Works incredible. No streaks.

Get the basic package.

Are you locking the car using the interior central locking…or are you locking using your remote fob? Asking because I thought using the remote fob would initiate the interior motion sensor (the LED illuminates below the interior rear view mirror).

Used the display key button today. Worked no alarm. Maybe interior sensor stays off if it detects and person on the seat. I can't remember if the Red light on the mirror was flashing as normal.

The cloth both myself and Joe use are amazing you can't go wrong. I never used one before wish I had discovered them years ago for laptops, TVs and of course the car panels.

Also works great on piano black inlays.

I can tell you appreciate the best detailing products. I always struggled with glass until I found these.
