1200 mile service warning
Looks like BMW are stitching up new customers charging them for the 1200 mile running in service. Which I think is outrageous!

Yep, this is what I did - still got charged but got a discounted rate and it is all built into my monthly payments so didn't get stung a few weeks later.

He said that most of the time they 'build the cost' into the finance - that way the garage effectively get paid for the work early and the sales department receive the money. Once the service is carried out, the service department then internally invoice the sales department to get 'paid' for the work carried out. Like I say, it's only because I know the business manager that I know this happened, to most customers it all happens invisibly and they would not be aware of it. If the sales department have not built it into the sales price, the service must be paid for. This would happen for instance, if the car was being supplied to a broker or lease company and might end up being taken to a different dealer for servicing. My last car (325i E93) was supplied from a dealer in Scotland but obviously had all it's servicing and warranty work done locally in the Midlands. |

My car is due the week after next, can't wait. Never had a BMW before, always been a Merc man but I always try to get a completely different type of vehicle each time and it had been a while since a high performance one, so here I am.
I've booked a road trip (Alpine Adventure) in September and what with being away for a couple of weeks in August need to rack up the miles quickly and get the service done so that I can properly enjoy the car on the trip. I have only phoned Woods in Hampshire so far but they quoted £450.00 for the service but offered to match it if I got a cheaper price. Seems totally outrageous to me but it is not covered for free anymore, apparently it was included in the early cars. Anyone got any ideas about getting it for free or at the best price possible? I've got a list of dealers to start phoning round next week but if anyone can share their experience and save me some time would be much appreciated |

Took delivery of mine last week, dealer told me it was £350. I had a whinge about it and told them they never mentioned when I ordered the car. They advised it used to be free until 2009.
Got no choice in my opinion, gotta pay it! |
