What's the consensus on Ambient Air?

I always thought that an ambient air package was when you went and bought a Limburger cheese and forgot to put it into an air-tight container for the ride home.

It appears I may have been wrong however, since my vehicle will apparently come with an the Ambient Air option that doesn't smell like cheese. Apart for the ionisation there are two scent cartridges .. right?

Does anyone here have that option ... and the next question of course is, what do you think of it? Do you use it, what are the scents like, how long do they last etc. In lieu of having the car, I'd love to hear some owner's opinions. Only then will I eat cheese.

I saw the price of a cartridge suite is pretty steep.

I have it on both my G31 & G30. I specced it on my G31 which was built to order and it came part of a package on the used G30 I bought.

In all honesty it is a bit of a waste of time.

I thought you could demand the perfume by pressing a button (I wonder if it works differently in the 7 series?). But instead the system doses the fragrance at a predetermined schedule.

You can adjust the level in 3 stages, but even at the highest level it is not a very strong aroma.

It is nice to have it integrated, but the fragrance is too subtle in my opinion.

Only tried 2 of the fragrances so far.

Which option is that?

I guess it's one option you can't kick up a stink about!

I'll go and get my coat......

When I took the demo G30 for a day the SA loaded it with a new ambient air package scent and didn't tell me. When I returned the car the next day he told me about it and asked if I noticed - I hadn't, no clue at all. If there was any doubt before then that I didn't want it, there was none after that...

When I lended de demo from the dealer over the night the car ambient air package, we felt it when driving around. The smell is very subtle and it comes in small hardly notisable dustes. But for me... Naaah I dont like it. Had to stop my SA from loading them when taking delivery.

This is the kind of option where I would certainly want to sniff it out first :-)

My view on this is that it is an option that sounds good on paper but in reality probably doesn’t add much. If it was my call I’d put the money towards better seats/leather or something like that...

Agree with all above. If I could have 'unspecced' it from the premium package I would have but don't think you can do that... would have preferred the space in the glove-box.

However I like he little ionic symbol on the display. Not sure what it does but it makes it look like it's doing something awesome...

Much as I suspected. Thanks for providing a few giggles along the way.

I remember they had the same thing in the Mercedes but at least there I had the option. The feature comes standard on the 540i over here so I wasn't able to to take it out of the order.

Is this a Euro spec only? In the US I thought it was only something that existed on the 7er.

Personally I don't like noticeable "ambient" smells. If my G30 smells like car and leather that's just fine with me.

Having had the car for a year now I have to say I love it. I've gone through 3 cartridges now. Anyone know where I can get more?

Is there some way to code off the reminders that you're running out of scent? They are really bugging me.

Really ambient air makes absolutely no difference and I can't be bothered to buy replacement cartridges for £30 a pop as I have gone through in a year all the five or six different smells I got with the car.

The main benefit is that my youngest likes to play with the empties 😂

Same here- haha!

I'm surprised more people haven't had positive experiences like me.

It definitely keeps the car smelling fresher and the scent does come through for sure and is nicer than any air freshener I've ever used or smelt in a car before. When it starts to run out the slightly worn/wet carpet mat smell starts coming through.

You can buy it online much cheaper option than buying from BMW directly. I suggest Ebay.

Yeah I only found them for £25 each even on eBay. I happened to have a £5 discount thingy so managed to get one for £20. But £25 or £20 per cartridge is pretty extortionate!

That is one option I wish I didn't get a complete waste of time and money both cartridges only lasted one month each on number one setting.
