Disappointed that the interior trims are the same old, same old. I'm fine with the options as some are really nice but time to offer some open pore wood trims that's not pure wood fine line trim.

Interesting to see how all the options will add up. I might be interested in a 540i xDrive next fall. So far I'm drooling over the Macan GTS

Seriously, standard equipment on all Acuras.

Hell, it's standard equipment on a Civic.

Guess they are waiting for 2018 when it will be required by law in the US.
Total bummer. I had a 320i loaner recently, and it didn't even have power seats anymore. And BMW still has the nerve to call themselves a "luxury" brand? With manual seats??
What next, crank Windows in the next gen 3 series??

I saw 3AG rear view camera as a stand alone option but then read the notes and see nothing has changed. Can only be ordered with PDC and DA. Nuts with the May 2018 mandate.

Agreed, its ridiculous at this point.

Seriously. Comfort access still isn't standard either. Rearview camera and keyless entry are both standard on base Mazda 3s now. Keyless entry is standard on base Hyundai Accents with an MSRP of $14,475. Exterior color palette is boring too, even for this demographic.

65-70k for a 540xi?
Macan S/GTS, E43 AMG, 17 Audi A6 are going to take a major bite out of this pie.

Also the standard headlights are not Full LED - does that mean it will have cheap amber turn signal bulbs???
More likely standard on the 550 or w/e they are going to call it

Disagree.. Just recalled, it was posted on another forum as soon as it was released. There is an article published on July 26, 2016, 2:14 pm.

Just don't see why bimmerpost is so late.

Bimmerpost is way more awesome than the other forums.

EDIT: Ok, eating my own words, you are right more wheels..

Cognac in dakota option only not nappa. that is stupid. why do the ppl making decisions do things like that? they did same thing a few years back when white and brown were only in nappa not black. then a year latter black was available in nappa.

BMW still making people buy safety equipment as an optional extra on the luxury 5 series. This is the 21st Century!

I am fighting to stop myself from going to Porsche dealership today and ordering a Macan GTS before I even see the new 5er. That car is so much fun to drive, and 50% of the fun is coming from the exhaust. On the other hand BMW is obviously again not offering sports exhaust as an option on 540i, while M550 is arriving later
The only huge downside of Macan is that it does not have a HUD, if Porsche would offer this, I would take it for sure immediately (they don't have it even in the new Panamera, incredible).

I don't like SUVs, but if you compare a BMW with a Porsche, don't mint the HUD and go buying a Panamera...not a Macan please....

I don't like SUV neither. But at the same time I am 6.7" so they fit me very well.
The thing is, I don't even consider Macan as an SUV, once you are in, you don't fell as you are in an SUV, when you drive it, it does not behave like an SUV.
I like it's taller ride height and the siting position (for this reason I currently drive 5 GT, bit higher but not a truck as X5 or Cayenne). I was thinking of getting X5M, but after a test drive I did not like it and it's whole SUV feeling.

New Panamera is absolutely gorgeous, but except that the siting position is simply to low for me and is significantly more expensive, I think it also lost a bit of its Porsche charm due to this new fancy interior with zillion touch buttons, complicated infotainment system (it's hilarious you need go trough the menus to adjust air circulation direction etc), and even with all that mumbo jumbo BS they still don't offer HUD (should I cry or laugh because of this).

I honestly think that the new M550i will be able to compete with the Panamera 4s and even beat it for significantly less money(OK, it wont be so beautiful) while the new M5 will be a match for Turbo and later Turbo S. Its simply more practical car with similar performance, better infotainment and it has HUD!!! On the other hand Panamera will most probably sound way better which is a huge fun factor.
I am very disappointed that they are not going with M550i from the beginning. And also, I am a bit bored of the same BMW interior I am driving in for the last 10 years, I would like some refreshment (it is still very nice, but a complete refresh would be more than welcomed for the old BMW drivers).

I might be a minority, manual seats are great! Less weight, less shit to break, and you can quickly pull them up to slide back and get out. What's not to love?!

Wow.

5- full size sedan -
SAV - Macan
Full size SAV with 3rd row - X5

That's three different vehicle demographics.

It's not surprising you like the size and height of the Macan - it's a crossover and that's what nearly all Americans are buying today.

Elevated height but a sporting drive. :thumbsup

What is surprising is that you compared the Macan to the X5M when the X3 M40 [or whatever that alphabet mess is ] or upcoming X3M is the true Macan competitor.

Of course (!) a 7 seat Vehicle felt like a real SUV in comparison to your 5 GT and the roller skate that is the Macan GTS.

so the following are not standard and should be by now

comfort access
leather
heated front seats
satellite radio
backup camera

and weird that the 530 has a lights package for the adaptive headlights but the 540 you will need to get the premium package (which honestly contains almost nothing now and those items should just be standard on a 60k car)

Premium Package is a joke now on the 5 series. It shouldn't even exist. Make that stuff standard already.

I'm not saying it makes sense, its just what I am interested in
I also agree that true Macan competitor is X3, but that is a very old model, next year the new one is coming, so no way I'm buying the current one. X3M will be magnificent car for sure, but it will take ~2 years to see it.

In short, I want sporty, comfortable car that is relatively new on the market so it won't be replaced/obsolete soon, so now my choice is down to the new 5er or Macan, both have some cons and pros.
