And seeing the car in person and compared to the new A4 (Which is VERY bland) the S6 is muscular in its own way and to me just looks fantastic in and out- and at 450 HP 420 lb. ft. getting 0-60 in 4.2 (.1 quicker than M2?) with 4 wheel drive is just the cherry on top.
Whoops, didn't mean to call the Audi cut-rate, I was just saying that saving $10-15k (which is a dubious number being thrown out right now) isn't really a solid standalone reason for comparing these cars.

I'll go back and sit in the seat after work today and see how the newer A6 stacks up! but all those stats you posted about the S6 look like they are beat by the upcoming M550i

Maybe you are correct on the pricing but I have never seen a 550 x drive for under 80k? If you dont get the fancy ass lights on the S6 it is under 80k Both are very nice cars, I would just do the Audi if I was going to be buying a "big" car like this.

Boy, I sure miss the E39 540i M Sport. I wish BMW make a limited run of these or go more retro with design of their new 5er.

It's one of those cars that's highly dependent on having the right options. 10 years down the line most of them have aged terribly. For all the criticism the E65 received, I felt it was one of the most attractive 7-series designs ever after the LCI. That pretty much corrected all complaints. Heck, it certainly has more presence than the vanilla F01 and G11.

The rest of Bangle's designs were pretty nice and still look great today.

My gripe with Audis is that they have no "soul." Their designs are very "clinical" inside and out. Excellent build quality, high quality materials, great attention to detail, but its all very understated and lacking character. That translates to the driving experience as well. And call me a snob, but Audi has no history. Good luck finding anything special on Hemmings besides an ugly old Audi Quattro.

Now with BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche the number of historic vehicles is endless. They've dominated in motorsports as well whereas Audi has just had a nice run in Le Mans. Aside from that, these brands produce cars with a distinct look and feel that goes back generations and gives them character. For BMW, up until recently, they also had a characteristic way they drove that gave them so much personality. That "emotion" that goes alone with a car is what separates the other German brands from Audi for me.

It's the same reasoning why most enthusiasts prefer Ferrari over Lamborghini and McLaren. Sure, the latter two make vehicles that are just as competent, but which brand has the strongest pedigree and heritage?

In general I dont disagree with this statement but really modern BMWs are big, heavy (Not bloated- all those safety things are heavy though) and all have such overboosted steering as to make them laughable sometimes. The ultimate driving machine is a nice tag line but only a few still are (M240/M2)- I have a 435GC beautiful car but nowhere near the E46 and some models before that truly WERE "Ultimate Driving machines" -
And as far as Audi's being "soulless" thats kind of a media term and again is partly true- Press the gas on that 450 hp V8 in the S6 - look at that amazing Audi virtual cockpit dual full screen HMI, sit in that awesome comfy pleated seat while this rocket ship flys down the road- and you may find this one has a "soul"?

Audi Virtual Cockpit is the most useless peace of equipment on the market.
If you have a great HUD (as in BMW), why would you ever look at the virtual cockpit?

What is wrong with BMW seats, they are not comfy? Sorry but they are way better than what you get in S6.

Completly aggree.
I can not really start with the Audi VC. The combination of BMW HUD, the multifunctional instrumentcluster and the Navigation Professional is for me the better and more transparent solution.

I agree, the 2010 E60 550 Msport in black is one of the best looking and driving BMWs ever made. I still turn my head when I see one.

I guess but I can tell you this that the BMW MMI interface while OK leaves a LOT to be desired and sometimes to me is actually not safe as you have to do way more scrolling, bumping and pushing just to play specific music than you should. There are so many steps that you can take out to make a decent system better. And the NAV is nowhere near as accurate or nice as Google maps or even Apple maps thats on our phones. And if they direct your right hand to the scroll wheel to maneuver everything why not a redundant dedicated volume button down there like Audi has? It only makes perfect sense. And have you driven an Audi with the Virtual cockpit for any length of time (I have for about 90 minutes only) I was impressed and the nav was very high res accurate and easy to read with turn by turn built in. My 435GC has heads up - I like it until I have my sunglasses on and the polarization takes away the HUD

And now I see that the M550i has black exhaust tips while the other M-sports has chrome tips.
