Dinan and BMW no more???

My dealer just said below. I emailed Dinnan to see, but Brahman BMW chain of dealers is no longer installing and BMW is not authorized any longer??

"Call me when you can Dinan and Bmw are not working together anymore according to service, they are saying that Bmw has been flagging cars with Dinan and going forward voiding warranty because of it "

This happened two years ago. it's correct. When Dinan was sold, the deal fell through. Now Dinan still has their supplemental warranty and BMW can't void any warranty claim unless they have definitive proof the Dinan directly caused the failure, that's one of the papers you sign when you buy a BMW (at least in the US, that says it's illegal for BMW to deny warranty if aftermarket parts are installed).

Most dealers stopped doing the installs and dropped off as authorized dealer list for Dinan. I hear it's a bit of a shit show if you have issues, dealer try's to say it was Dinan, Dinan says proove it, Dealer says... back and forth - months later your car is in the shop and the only way you are getting it is to pay out of pocket... and usually we're talking many thousands of dollars because the dealer wouldn't push back on a $75.00 part.

He said their not an authorized installer any longer either? Kinda seems not worth the premium to do this with Dinan. Anyone with experience having an issue and being stuck between Dinan and BMW?

What's some others using for modest tunes on the M550's?

so this is currently happening, but it seems dinan is going to cover the cost of the engine replacement.

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1614332

but yea it seems a l ot of dealers are dropping off. Pacific BMW has dropped off, and when I asked Rusnak BMW about the dinan tune they said they no longer install them, even though they are still a dinan dealer.

Another reason to wait for the Bootmod3 software tune. Hopefully it will come out in our lifetime for the G30.

These "Dinan is dead" stories have been popping up for over a decade from time to time like recycled facebook memes or email warnings about alligators in toilets.

For my part, my dealer installed it, supports it and I have had zero issues. Compared to most other tunes, at least there is a fighting chance to handle a dispute if one occurs. Other solutions and you are likely SOL. Get it installed by a BMW authorized dealer and most issues are pretty clear as to liability.

What's this do for leases cars like mine? I'm obviously not going to remove unit from car each time I bring in for service,
It's so strange, I got my car a month ago and when I was signing lease papers they gave me a printout of the Dinan unit with pricing?

Remember that the dealership is just a reseller of BMW. They are not BMW. If BMW wants to deny a warranty claim for a blown engine, I guarantee you the dealer won't be liable. I would get everything in writing just to CYA.

The Dinan tune is still the "safest" of them IMO as it does have the most testing and closest contact with BMW engineers and history. Plus they do have the umbrella warranty that no one else offers. This is why I have one on my 2017 340i and have been happy, no issues, doesn't seem like it's over working the car and it is still an everyday driver.. never threw a single code. So I would not discount them simply because dealers are stepping away. But I think the premium Dinan charges may be in question now. They do sales a few times a year that knock off 10 or 15%, that makes it more reasonable.

While they are not dead, it is true that Dinan was sold, it's closer partnership with BMW and dealers is over, and there is some sort of bad blood there as BMW is distancing it's self from any connection with Dinan. So it comes down to that they are just another 3rd party tuner company at this point. But like I said, knowing that - it was still my choice, and probably will continue to be for many others due to what I mentioned above.

BTW - I turn my leased 340 in later this week (got M550i landing this week). I just pulled my Dinan tonight and am posting it for sale now, it's for a MPPSK configured car. PM if anyone is interested.

What's the other reasons waiting on a product that has not shipped with no ship date? I got a 3 year lease with the clock ticking and the Dinan fit the bill and was installed when I wanted by my dealer. I don't get the logic of saying an unshipped product is better than a product that works, can be installed by a dealer (some) and has at least a figment of a warranty.

If it's a leased vehicle who cares. I would have done the same thing.

Waiting for my dealer to tell me that when I return the lease that having the Dinan on my car when brought in for service won't be an issue. I don't want them refusing to take the car back at end of lease or throwing some charge at me because I put the Dinan tune on it.

Did they install it? If not, do you have a dealer nearby who does? Although the Dinan/BMW relationship may not be what it once was, there are a ton of cars with the tune done by BMW dealers and the warranty is in writing. Can BMW still F you, sure, but hard to make a case when the dealer installed it.

No Braman BMW chain isn't certified any longer to instal. I found a place on Dinan website that is a "pro installer" according to Dinan website that will put on for $1950. $200 less than my dealer said a month ago when I was signing papers and they gave me a Dinan print out?

Anyway dealer said having dinan won't cause any issues if I take it off when I return car at end of lease.

That's a lot of money for the install.. the unit is $1200. A first time install might be an hour in total, most the time spent reading instructions and being cautious. If I had to do it again, I'd say it would be 10-15 minutes, nearly all that is spent cleanly strapping down the wire harness so it looks nice. the Install is pretty much fool-proof. Just 4 unique plugs, you simply connect them and route the wire harness to the compartment. the hardest part is unscrewing the positive & ground post to connect the cables that power the unit and tightening it back up.. like all of 30 seconds each.

If you jump on Dinan's website you can grab the installation instructions and read how easy it is... might want to save yourselves $750 and the trip.

The new unit for M550's is $1699 on Dinan website and installer said they can't upcharge that or they don't. Something like that.
So $150 for instal is good. Plus the instal has you removing intake parts, support bars connected to frame. $150 in labor sounds good to me!!

Gotcha, I missed the price - With that price, I totally agree it's worth having them install.
