I've heard engine production for the 1 and 2 will be outsourced to Briggs & Stratton.
HAHAHA

Or Husqvarna, but I have the following on good authority from a BMW source:

- The blades are optional and part of the Lawn Sport package.
- There will also be retrofit M Performance options: carbon blades and grass collectors
- The suspension upgrades will allow 25 - 70mm adjustment of grass length

Unconfirmed as yet the top of the line model will also feature twin grass dispensers as the current M235i.

So are you saying people can't brag about fuel economy? or... apparently.. fiscal responsibility... or that being green isn't " cool" ? or " fun"?

I guess it's time to go back to high school... because that's when things were " fun".
There's nothing wrong with good fuel economy, but a company that bills itself as the ultimate driving machine with sport inspired cars needs to have priorities. I'm sure they're offering these engines to meet regulatory guidelines to some degree. And it's technically interesting to see more power being made from smaller engines, but they're losing a lot of what makes the engine attractive to drivers. I don't like feeling a rough idle vibrating through my steering wheel or an engine that makes a tin-like "roar" when I stomp the gas. My wife's Q5 has Audi's T2.0 4 cylinder. It makes plenty of power, but there's no mistaking the lack of refinement in the delivery when you press the gas.

No thanks - I'll stick to 6 or 8 cylinders, or maybe a buttery all electric if I need to go green. But no high revving output leaf blowers for me!
The Ultimate Environmental Machine

This will depreciate F10 so much!
I also feel that this upcoming car will be a HUGE advancement over the F10.
I hope BMW loses 500lbs of weight with the new generation

LOL...that thing looks ugly, sounds terrible, looks slow. Three strikes your out.

It is one thing to put it in a tiny 1-series. Another thing in a giant 5-series people mover. Like others have say, the 528i is already anemic.
Have you driven a 528 with the N20? Very nimble car.

Says the poster with the 435 on order and not the 428?

I have to my disdain driven the 528 and it's ridiculously under-powered - it's a dog in fact.

N20 is perfect for 3, X3, X1 and 2 series though..

Haha.. You got me. I do enjoy a larger engine, but I was impressed with the 528 loaner I had for 2 days. The weirdest thing is popping the hood. This little engine in this large engine bay.

One of the new features of the next 3 cyl 5 series is it comes with an attachment for the rear bumper to mow your lawn.

Oh yeah today, of course. The beauty of seeing an e39 brand new at the dealer would be nice

Yup, had a couple loaners. I found it far from nimble. It was a boat, with a 4 banger. The N20 is much better in smaller cars. I am sure the 228i will be a blast to drive.

Can't tell if serious? It will depreciate just like other models prior to the F10. The introduction is still 2.5 to 3 years away. If they start screwing with the engines i.e. putting a 3 in the 528, a 4 in the 535, etc. I think you'll see even less of a hit.

Six and a half years for both.
In the U.S. the F10 debuted in June 2010 as a 2011 model.

So if one follows the normal 7 year life cycle for German cars then the last F10 would launch in June of 2016 as a 2017 model and the G30 would debut in June of 2017 as an 18' model.

However, the LCI for the F10 launched a year early- so perhaps BMW will only have the F10 be a 6 year car here in the U.S.

That's clearly the convertible version, I see the headlights have become optional as part of the evolution towards weight (read cost) saving

What I find interesting is the naming convention.

We were seeing an Ex platform for multiple generations, now the Fx platforms will only carry ONE generation of each representative model (X1 being the last to potentially gain an F platform).

Is there a justification or as to why they are not going to do an F60 - or a higher numerical expression of the Fx series?

A three cylinder. Hmm. I thought it was bad when the cut the straight 6 down to 4 now they're taking off one more. Next thing you know they'll have a one cylinder with 5 turbos... That's literally a joke. I could maybe understand the 1 series having this but the 5? What are they doing over there?!

A quint-turbo 1 cylinder engine wouldn't lag at low RPM but would produce sufficient boost through the mid and higher ranges. With maps switchable by the user optimized for either fuel economy or high boost combined with weight reduction that comes from a smaller engine this thing could be a beast.

I'm not a fan of F10 mainly because the size/weight so i'll be skipping a generation. 4400lbs for performance car is not good. I don't care if they managed to hide the weight because laws of physics are there for a reason.

The next generation or G series M5 cannot come soon enough.
600hp and 400lbs less weight.. that will equal better hp/lb and will be much faster than F10. If we are to guess each 10lbs saved = 1 hp then you are talking about 40hp from drop in weight plus another 40hp from bump in power to 600hp and that is if it is not even more. That is 80hp right there more than the abomination that is F10.

What is the downside again? other than frying tires when you attempt to put down 600hp in rear wheels

I am really going to s**t bricks if the G30 3-cyl could get 5 people and a trunkload of stuff onto a freeway in decent time, otherwise I am starting to lose faith in BMW, and I've loved BMW since I was 17.

Abomination? not at all. You may want to spend a little more time to understand what BMW did with the new M5.

On another note, until BMW starts using all aluminum chassis or carbon fiber tubs there are huge disadvantages to loosing weight also. M5 needs to play dual roles very well.
