wheel and tire road hazard insurance
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know what is fair price for wheel and tire insurance on a 2019 540xi msport (20" staggered eagle f1 ROF)? I had a bad experience on a 2011 535msport with eagle 19" ROF Ls2 (3 sidewall bubbles) and these are smaller sidewall profile. Taking delivery next week of the car and the business manager wanted $2600CDN for coverage on a 4 year lease. Seems like a lot on one hand, but a new set of goodyear or pirelli ROF tires is about that much. any advice? do dealerships have the flexibility to discount this? Thanks! They wanted $2300USD for 5 years of Wheel & Tire when I picked up my 530e w/ 18" wheels in NJ. I told them to kick rocks.
I had a horrible amount of bubbles on my previous car which was a '14 MB C300. I had paid $800 for 5 years of MB Wheel & Tire protection and was able to go into the black on that in the first year due to our shitty roads and the weak tires. I stopped having problems immediately once I swapped to non-OE tires (to the ExtremeContact DWS06). That being said, the vast majority of tire manufacturers and/or shops will warranty new tires for 1 or 2 years for road hazard for free. So you'll likely never make up the cost of the Wheel & Tire unless you have extremely bad tires and then you'd be better off just swapping them anyway. It can get questionable if you damage the rims, but since these policies only cover the wheel not holding air you can still end up needing to pay out of pocket from potholes bending them enough to give you vibration and noise. So my long winded recommendation is to put the money into a savings account and self fund your repairs. You'll likely come out ahead. |

Interesting, I didn’t know they only cover wheels if they don’t hold air. I thought they covered 2 instances of curb rash? My concern is it would cost me $2300cdn to put 4 new run flat tires on the car because of the 20” size. If it wasn’t a lease I’d swap out non run flats, but since I have to put run flats on at least on return, my thinking was if I blow 4 tires over 4 years it will be worth it, just thought the price was steep

$1800 for 5 yrs - I have the 20" 669 wheels and Pirelli P Zero RF. Already replaced one rear tire due to leak. $50 deductible. Tire was $405 retail.
