Brand new G31 with no AA, CarPlay or Wifi
Hi All,
Picked up my brand new G31 on Friday, which has technology pack (and comfort pack). The dealer went through a bunch of features before I left, including connecting up my phone. However now I'm trying to connect to Android Auto (Samsung S21), and there is no Android Auto option. I then realised there is no Apple Car Play option either. So the Apps menu just list "Installed apps" and "BMW Store". iDrive is version 11/2021.60. I called the dealer, gave them all the details with some photos, and on Monday morning they said they "forced through" a manual update, and to wait upto 24 hours. That is approaching 48 hours ago, but doesn't appear to have made any difference. I now realise that the car also has no Wifi network. I have just signed up to the free 1 month trial, in case that needed to be completed for the Wifi to start up, but that also hasn't made any difference. The dealer appears quite helpful, but is about 70 miles away, so I can't really just pop round and drop the car in. I now think that the missing Wifi is the cause of why Android Auto is not available. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks J |

Thanks, never owned a BMW before, so new to the car, the Brand, and this forum!
The dealer said that nothing had been removed due to any shortages, and "Wifi Hotspot" is listed on the new car invoice. So should be there. My guess is that something hasn't been activated, and once that is established and resolved, it should appear and all just start working....I hope J |

Due to the microchip shortage, a lot of new BMWs (including the X3 I have just picked up recently) do not have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or the wi-fi functionality BUT this will be rectified by an over the air Remote Update. This is due by end of April-ish.
Looks like they've got some new hardware but just need to get final licensing/coding/similar sorted. There is plenty of info in these forums (I can't remember the product code for this temporary deletion, but you'll find it here somewhere!). Edit: The code is 6P1 - if you see this on your build sheet, this is the answer… |

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen those details and it hadn't occurred to look elsewhere on the forum...
As it happens, I just spoke with BMW UK and they said there is a March '22 update available that will resolve these issues that has been released within the last few days. He said I can wait for it to become available OTA in 1-2 months, or book it into the dealership for them to do it more quickly. So its booked in for Monday Cheers J |

There is only 1 person I trust to code my car, long story short my G31 went into the dealer for update and they ended up getting the blue screen of death and wanted £1800 for a new head unit.
Called my coder who is infamous in the coding world 10 seconds later car was back to normal and updated even newer than the dealer / stealer could. Let me know if you want his details |

@DotNetDude
I just got the following from UK, so please keep us updated on if the dealer can bring CarPlay to 6P1 cars. I imagine you'll be running 22-03-530 or 22-03-535 post programming |

Sounds odd to me, that if it´s deactivated because of chip-shortage, that it can just be activated via software?!

2022 builds have a newer peice of hardware ( I have confirmed this in esys on my own car ).
The 21-11 istep does not include the chipset drivers for the Wi-Fi module in this new hardware, so 22-03 is needed from that stand point. Once you're on the right istep, bmw still need to push an enabling code (FSC) ( read: license ) to the car to enable the feature again |

Yup, as expected. It does however have the software for it now - I posted on another thread that the iPhone now sees idrive as a CarPlay capable device .
We need to wait now for bmw to release the software license for it - I've got a contact there now who's going to let me know as soon as it's out, and I'll post back letting you all know |

Hello everyone, I would like to update this thread since I got the same issue on my brand new G02, the idrive is 11/2021.60 and I have no carplay or wifi system being recognized by the car.
I got a phone call from the dealer telling me that this should be fixed by the brand new version released on the 2nd of may but I don’t see any update available, any idea where I can check for this ? Thank you |
