BM3 Stage 2+ reliability on 540 x drive
I have a 2018 540 x drive w 20k miles and currently have BM3 stage1 and xhp stage 2. Stage2+ is definitely tempting but I was curious about reliability. What is the general consensus on reliability for the stage 2+ tune? I drive pretty hard most of the time but Iaunch the car very rarely. Are any significant issues being reported by anyone ?
I don't plan on keeping the car past 70k miles but don't want to grenade the turbo / engine / drivetrain in the process. Last edited by Jrl8d; 09-23-2023 at 12:53 PM.. |

Don't know about reliability but in about a month's time I went from no tune, to BM3 Stage 1 to BM3 Stage 2+ E30. The power is amazing. I took it to the drag strip on Friday and it perfomed really well.

That's awesome man! What kind of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times were you getting? Stage 2+ is such a huge jump that I basically have to do it unless it's going to destroy the car. I was just going to do 93 though since e30 isn't readily available around where I'm at and this will be a daily.
I'm generally not too concerned with tunes but I had read some opinions that it would be overworking the turbo. I couldn't find much info to back that up and felt like it could be conjecture. Since I daily drive the car and don't plan on removing the tube until I sell it, I wanted to make sure it can manage the additional strain long term. |

I have gone the same route. I went BM3 Stage 1 then not long after Stage 2 and now for the last 3-4 months I'm at Stage 2+. I have a 2019 540 with 28,000 miles no issues yet.

Do you datalog your car with BM3? Curious if there's anything to look for when jumping from stage 1 to stage 2.

I definitely data a logged about three runs. I don't think that you're looking at anything special moving to a different stage. You just check the same things you always data log

This motor is solid! No worries about reliability.

Well I'm no expert but the thing I look for are what you mentioned plus: timing corrections per cylinder, severe throttle closures (accel pedal vs. throttle angle), AFR/Lambda, Oil Pressure, WGDC%. If you are doing a lot of tracking or back to back 1/4 miles then just keep an eye on coolant temps, IATs which can reduce power/ pull timing, Oil Temps, and Transmission temps.
