What's your insurance company say? I've had Safelite replace more than one windshield, and as long as they use factory glass, there was no problem. They used an aftermarket glass once and had to replace it with factory glass. The aftermarket glass was wavy at the bottom.

Thankfully, insurance paid as the windshield glass was well over $1K.

Have aftermarket replacement by Safelite, I am on 5th windshield, current one is made by Pilkington - no issues. HUD normal good display, Line centering (Assist) works as good as ever.

Pilkington is the OE supplier for many manufacturers (European especially). If going aftermarket, this would be the only option I would recommend. It' would be pretty much the OE glass (without the BMW and Connected Drive markings), for a fraction of the cost.

calibration code

Hope you have better luck than I have had. Cracked windshield on my 2023 M550i, so call Safelight and set up appointment. Tech gets there and tells me BMW has not provided the code to calibrate the front facing camera so I need to go to dealer and get them to "unlock it." Call my salesman and he checks with service and tells me just come in any morning and they'll do it. I decide hell if I have to go to dealer may as well have them do the windshield replacement there. Get on their website, say I need windshield replaced and they give me appointment today. I get there and service tech says windshield isn't in stock. I say then why the hell did you give me an appointment?? Nevermind, just unlock my code so I can go back to Safelight. Service manager says they won't do that unless they are replacing the windshield. I tell them to kiss my ass and leave. Call the dealer in Baton Rouge to have it done, and they tell me they don't do windshields. I swear I love this car but I am DONE with BMW.

If you get Pilkington aftermarket, it is basically the same, just without the BMW logo imprinted in the corner.

When I had mine done I went to the dealer first to get the written estimate with all the parts required (trim, sound insulating foam strips, rain sensor, etc) and gave that to the independent shop my insurance company partnered with. They ordered everything from the local BMW dealer including BMW glass and performed the install. Never had issues.

I did look the shop up beforehand and saw they did good work. When I pulled up there were other German luxury cars getting worked on which was also reassuring. I've had my share of Safelite installs which can be hit or miss depending on the technician- it was easier to 'vet' the independent shop than play roulette with Safelite.

I had mine replaced with Pilkington and the HUD was blurry. In the words of the windscreen tech it looked like dog shit.

I had to argue to get genuine.

That said they’d done 1000s and I was the first with an issue so maybe it was a manufacturing defect.

It can happen, even with factory BMW glass. Several years ago I had my windshield replaced at the BMW dealer and it took three tries to get a windshield that did not have wavy defects in my field of vision.
