Incorrect to say you have issues with the M4 when you haven't even driven one

i am not a huge fan of the looks, nor the F30. A
As far as sound goes, that totally personal opinion. although i agree its not a very good sound car. At least compared to the old V8. |

Please don't buy an M4. You won't have any idea about how to drive it. Go to the C7, C63, or RS5 boards. Or maybe the "my modded 335i kicks the shit out of the M4" board. There's really no need for you to get an M car.

I was responding to the OP's comment about looks. My point had nothing to do with performance. I have a 2006 Dinan M3 that I have owned for 8 years and have driven many M cars. I know what an M is about.

From this angle, the blue one looks great...and the white one looks great... From a non-enthusiast view, I am sure the color is the only difference they would notice. So like all M cars before, the F8x contain understated, simple design elements which increase the appeal over the regular cars but don't shout "look at me". From the rear in pics, it is easy to say the M3 looks more different vs 3 series relative to the M4 vs 4 series, but in reality, the differences are very similar. The M4 actually has a different shaped trunk in addition to all of the common changes, making it "more different" than an M3... |

Agreed...only styling aspect on the M3 is the rear fender flare looking more pronounced because it gets cut off at the rear door vs. flowing into the bodywork. Even though they are the same width.

M3/4 is nothing like its series production cousin. The amount of R&D and changes put into the car is prob the most among all M cars! M is in the driving, not how it looks or tune potential. This current generation of M3/4 is significantly better suited for the track right out of the factory compared to prev generations. Drive one first before making any judgement. I drove the M4 and loved it a lot! Planning to trade my M5 for a M3 if I could sort out the logistics of loosing the M5 first. I already know what they will do in the comp package: A faster and sharper steering rack to start with. Not much to change for the suspension in my opinion and power is adequate too...

I have driven all three cars and have owned two of them (C63 and M Sport F30 335i w/ entire M Performance catalog).
In comparison to the M Sport F30 335i w/ M Performance parts (a great car/setup, no doubt), the M4 feels like a completely different animal. The M4 has heavier, more communicative steering; substantially less body roll; a firmer suspension; seemingly infinitely more traction; a better transmission (ZF 8-speed Sport Auto. is good but the DCT is noticeably better/faster); more aggressive engine/exhaust notes; and a lot more power/torque (to name a few things). The brakes on the M4 felt similar to those on my F30 only because my F30 had the M Performance Big Brake Kit (which utilized the F80/F82 standard calipers). The standard M4 brakes are phenomenal. My C63 has outstanding brakes (6-piston fixed front, 4-piston fixed rear setup; seriously big hardware) and the M4's 4/2 F/R fixed setup felt equally as impressive. In sum, the M4 and the C63 are in a league of their own. They're rawer, more exciting, more focused, more demanding on the driver, and noticeably sharper all-around. If you're someone that drives his car hard on the road and attends occasional track days, you will unequivocally be able to distinguish between the performance of the M4 and the 335i or the C63 and the 335i. If you mostly cruise around in Comfort mode, you'll probably be just fine with the 435i or 335i.

I go to work by public transport most days so essentially what I'm looking for is a fun car that I can take out for a drive in the weekends and still enjoy it while going at/below the speed limit. I have this dream of taking my car up to the nurburgring( it's about a 6h drive) one day but I really don't have time to actually "track" my car. Between your C63 and the M4, which one do you think would bring you more joy on winding village/mountain roads? |

The bottom line is that you can't even start this thread without having seen and driven the car. I had an e90 sport pkg and now have an f10 loaded msport with DHP. I also ordered and just had delivered for my mother in law a new 4 series vert with msport. I drove all cars back to back and I have huge M4 envy. It doesn't look like the regular 4 and it certainly doesn't drive like it. It's a completely different car in every respect and it is pointless to discuss its finer points unless you also drive it. Makes my msport f10 seem like a whale in comparison.
