Retrofit Lane Assist
Is there any way to code/activate Lane Assist on a G30? The car has the KAFAS2 cameras. On my previous car, you could enable (by coding) Lane Assist, Roadsign Recognition and High Beam Assist, if the car had the "KAFAS" camera. The only thing the car uses the camera for at the moment is the "Emergency Brake".

I also wonder this. I have KAFAS (2 stereo cameras) and an lane assist (which only gives warning and doesn't put the car back to lane). My car doesn't have a front radar sensor. Can an active lane assist be coded so the car will use steering wheel intervention to hold the line??

Was that reply to me, or to both of us?
If it was for me, then how is it done - or who can help me? I´m located in Denmark. I´ve also seen in the new G30 accessories catalogue, that you can now order to different adaptive cruise controls. One of them are using the cameras, and works up to 140 km/h. Can that be activated as well?

I have empty buttons in the steering wheel, yes - i don´t have Adaptive Cruise at the moment, only the ordinary Cruise Control.
I don´t think I have sensors either; in my previous car the feedback for the Lane Assist was handled through the steering angle sensor.

eBay might be helpful on that part. But who can do the coding, and how?
Do you know about the Adaptive Cruise using the KAFAS2 cameras?

I know. But as I mentioned, the new price list indicates that there are two options for ACC now. One that uses the radar, and one that uses the cameras. The latter is obviously cheaper and works only up to 140 km/h.

The camerabased adaptive cruise is described as "5DF" and it is clearly stated that it´s camerabased, and it only works up to 140 km/h.

If that's the case I also want this option to be coded together with the adaptive lane assist

Ive been looking into all of this too.
my car has KAFAS, providing me lane departure warning and speed sign info. I do not have ACTIVE cruise control (ACC) or ACTIVE lane assistance. To enable ACC, the front full-range radar (FRR) in the lower grill is mandatory; KAFAS is only supplementary. To enable ACTIVE lane keeping assistance/ lane change (adjusts steering input/ changes lanes), you need to go balls to the balls with sensors. As well as KAFAS and FRR, 4 short range radars (SRR) are needed. 1 for each corner; mount on the inside of the bumper. the rear SRR sensors are also used for the Blind spot system. With all of the above, additional wiring, steering buttons, and coding are needed. All these sensors connect to the Optional equipment system module (SAS), which I think its only preinstalled when one of the above features are bought? Personally, Im only going to retrofit the FRR sensor for active cruise, as it seem the the easiest to do, plus there are few people on this forum that have done it. All required parts can be picked up on ebay for 350 quid. fitting and coding shouldn't cost more than 250. You may also need to upgrade your DSC too. If your car has park assist, you'll already have the right one. With any of these retrofits, there's no point mentioning a trip to the dealership. They either wont do it, or they'll charge you thousands. You need to be willing to source the parts yourself, and then track down someone who'll retrofit it. Thanks for the reply. As mentioned elsewhere, I took the easier solution and swapped the G30 for a better equipped G31. It has loads og extras that I missed on the G30; and it was actually cheaper to buy another car, than retrofitting navigation, towbar and ACC. All the other extras is just a bonus (Sport Line, 6WB, gesture control, ICON lights, Driver Assist Plus, Parking Assist, Ambient Light etc etc etc.)
I like retrofitting, but it seems way more difficult on a BMW than on my previous cars (Skoda), since not as many people are doing it - so the information is a lot harder to find. Not to mention that the prices are way higher.

I don't know about other manufacturers, but it seems retrofitting OEM things in BMW's has gotten just about impossible in newer models, as compared to the older ones.

Retrofit Lane Assist
Hi All
I have done this full retrofit to my G31 520D, I have done ACC on the lower grill in front I have changed Steering wheel for full option touch wheel Added 4 sensors to car front and back Added the available FSC for Wong way assist , Front collision warning and speed limit info. Lane departure warning does not work as this requires a separate FSC code and I am still unable to find the part number. The car does not automatically change lanes but selecting the indicator this requires manual movement. Any help would be appreciated Thanks |

I'm looking to add the 4 SRR sensors and vibro/touch steering to my G30 (already has SLI and ACC) for active lane keep assist (and blind spot detection). 1. Did you have to wire the SRR sensors yourself or was the wiring already there? 2. Did you eventually get the FSC codes for your KAFAS for active lane keep assist? Thanks |

A fellow South African, I was born in Pretoria and left for the UK in 99. I was not able to get Lane Departure warning working, I did get Lane change working. I since sold the car but stripped out all the bits out I have a full option heated wheel for sale. Thanks Paul |
