BMW 540I towing horsebox
Hi all,
New on this forum, been looking for info on Google but didn't find a clear answer. I'm looking to buy a BMW 540I 2017, there is only one thing. My wife uses my currently owned car 2-3 times per month to transport 1 horse. So I've got a horsebox that weighs around 950 kg and one horse approx. 600 kg. So a total of 1550 kg min. My currently owned car has a max towing weight of 2500 kg and the Maximum mass composed is 4730 kg. The 540I has a max towing weight of 2000 kg and a Maximum mass composed is 4360 kg. Does anyone have experience towing with a 540I? I don't wanna buy the car and get problems with transmission/suspension or whatever. Thanks in advance! BTW I am located in The Netherlands, so you won't find any landscape flatter than here. |

Once you are within towing weight limits etc i wouldn't worry about it. maybe just more regular changes of the rear diff and transmission fluids etc for a bit or extra preventative maintenance, If its a G31 though you might shorten the life of the rear air suspension, they can have issues even without towing
