Debadging tips needed

I'm considering taking the "540i" off of the rear of my car. I'm not worried about the physical task of removing the numbers, as I've done similar removal and replacement on other vehicles.

A hair dryer and dental floss, followed by a plastic razor, microfiber cloth, and some goo gone seems to be a winning combination. But any contrary opinions are welcome.

My concern is if I want to put them back on later, what is the best method to know the placement? Any tricks? Has anyone done this with good or bad results?

Thanks!

If you want to put the badges back on, its a lot cleaner and easier to buy a new badge. It will come already aligned and with the 3M applied. Just pull off the tape and slap it on.

That's great. So I guess I could just line some painters tape under it and take some measurements and pictures of exactly where it's placed. Then if I ever need to put a new one on, all I need to know are the placement points for the edges and the bottom.

This is exactly what I was going to recommend. Tape, a ruler and a camera. You really just need to know the vertical and horizontal cross points of the bottom corner and then level from there.

Here is something I made when I placed my side ///M badges. The "dot" in the bottom left or right is really all you need. I think you should get the point from these pics. Car is not mine, was a donor with them. Schematic I drew up.

I think you should be pretty much all set with removal tips from this thread:

Does anyone have the position for the rear badge?

Mine came with trim deletion but want to put the model trim badge back on.

Dealership made a hash of the job when I asked for them to install it as I didn’t have a template

Measure and take pics before you remove the badges.

I have a 540. I can try and take some pictures with measurement when I have time and post them for you here

Is there a way to blacken the 540i badge? What have people used? Plastidip?

Depends on your budget. Plastidip would be the cheapest and fastest.

You can get badges on Amazon, Ali express, or ebay

You can get an OEM painted badge from IND.

I would not recommend plasti-dip. Looks like crap and cheap. Get the OEM's painted from IND.

Man, I'm sorry. I totally forgot about this. Do you still need it or have you figured it out?

That's 100% what I will do, if I ever switch it.
