M5 style Mirror covers

Just installed these M style mirror covers on my 2019 540 and attempted to unclip the original housing by tilting the actual mirror instead of removing it and cracked it.

So this is just a heads up - just pop the mirror itself out by tilting it to one side and propping 2-3 fingers behind it to slowly pry it away from the housing. TRUST ME!

So you just hooked in fingertips at the top and sort of slowly pulled the glass out? I may need my son to help, I'm afraid these meathooks won't quite fit.

Seems MUCH simpler/safer than popping with the glass in place.

I used my fingers and they're not the smallest. Just tilt the mirror all the way to the bottom right or left and try to position 2 fingers behind the mirror a bit and slowly pry it diagonally up.

Definitely try removing the mirror glass. Hope that didn't confuse you

The mirrors pop out pretty easy. The backing has a circular clip that pops onto the a circular receiver. Just make sure you have equal outward pressure on the top and bottom or left and right side and it will pop off.

When I did this mod, I did the mirror tilt trick. I used a long flathead screwdriver to reach the plastic clips in the back.

You can actually just get a good grip on the side mirror housing and pull it off as well. The clips pop off pretty easily.

Sorry to revive this dead post but did you have any fitment issues with the new mirror caps? I bought some off of ebay and they will not seat correctly. They get super close to clipping in but won't fit all the way..

and thats what happens when you buy ebay parts. Are they black on the inside? Likely so - Thats plastic and plastic based mirrors always have fitment issues

I bought some off of eBay and had the same issue. They wouldn’t lock in. When I looked at them closer vs. the OEM caps they were missing a clip…. junk.

Went back to the drawing board and found these on Amazon for $50. They fit with no issues and have a nice finish on them.

GSRECY Gloss Black Side Wing Mirror Cover Caps Compatible with 2017-2020 BMW G30 G31 G20 G11 G12 M Style

I wasn’t looking for the M Style as I just wanted black caps (and not carbon fiber) but I couldn’t find them anywhere, only in the M Style.

There is a trick to installing them though you have to line them up from the inside edge near the door glass first. Hold the cap with your hand, cupping it in place and roll the inside of your forearm across the front of cap while applying pressure from the door glass outward and you’ll hear the clips click into place.
