Non-BMW Advice

This pertains to a Mazda CX-9 we hgave in the family; asking here because it seems many folks here have tinkered with a lot of different cars over the years.

The driver's door seal pills away from the frame, especially on rainy days. I have tried a couple different Permatex adhesives but the problem keeps coming back. Has anybody had good luck with a particular adhesive for this situation, or should I just spring for a new seal?

I appreciate any suggestions.

I assume your CX-9 is not under warranty?

First, clean the rubber seal (every side of it) using denatured alcohol. Also clean the painted area to receive adhesive using denatured alcohol. I would first try a clear silicon to see if this will hold the rubber seal to the body of the car. I like clear silicon as a first try because it's easily removed and shouldn't leave residue behind.

Molded inside the seal, where it grabs around the seam on the body, there is a metal band to hold the channel shape. It can spread over time, especially if the seal has been pulled off multiple times. Squeeze it back together to make the channel tight again.

An RTV sealant is a good choice or maybe a two part epoxy

Haha when I think two part epoxy I think golf clubs. I got really into doing my own club work last year and rebuilt a set of irons and reshafted all my wedges. Whatever you glue together with that stuff, it ain’t coming apart for a long long time.
