Super curious about this. Is it because you bought the car used from Private Party ?
No, unfortunately 95% of the dealers just wont touch them. It may be that they dont want the liability, parts in back order even before the pandemic or because only a viper tech can work on them and virtually no dodge mechanic has that training.

I basically have a warranty that i have to do the work myself and they will cover the cost of the part. I contacted FCA and they said they cant force a dealership to work on them since they are independently owned. I never heard of such a thing…and never would buy another Fiat/Chrysler product again.

That said, the car is an awesome 1 of a kind experience. Too bad dodge can care less about their customers…especially the small number of people that own one of their flagship products

WoW, that's crazy! I imagine its the same with Lambo's and other Supercars though too. What a pain in the ass, but like you said, the car is Awesome!

No, the difference is Lambo's and Ferraris is that supercars is their business. Service is a huge revenue generator.

This just has me shaking my head. But the more I think about it, what they should have done is offer viper only service independent of dodge, but that is not realistic because there just aren't enough of them to warrant it. The thought of bringing my Viper (if I had one) to a Dodge dealer makes me cringe. That's like bringing a Ferrari to a Chrysler dealer because they own a percentage of Ferrari.

The lack of a service option for your viper is a huge red flag and disappointing.

Spot on... At the end of the day, this "problem" works out for me. I wouldn't want this car at a dodge dealer. Somehow images of bouncing a ratchet off the car or door dings sticks to my mind. My best dealership experiences have been at Jaguar...seriously always treated extremely well. Worst dealership experiences - Dodge dealership (not the Viper). I hope BMW treats their customers well.

Didn't mean to jack the thread....we're all car enthusiast...here's some good in car videos from this guy Alex in Houston that's not afraid to drive his car. His channel is chock full of good street racing...not that I condone that

I had the same thought on be careful what you ask for! Just kind of crazy in terms of "Here is your new Viper" don't bring it here for anything, you are on your own.

BMW's service levels vary by dealer. In general the SA's kiss your ass, but at the end of the day, it's really all about what tech gets your car.

Also sorry to hijack!

Interesting discussion. At pretty much any dealership, the tech doing oil changes is not the same tech doing more in-depth repairs. It's typically going to be some kid with on the job training. I know I'll take more care with my car than the kid at the dealership when it comes to basic maintenance.

This is why I bring mine to a small BMW performance shop and I document it.

I don’t own one but guys in my car group don’t bring the GTRs to Nissan dealer bc nobody is trained on them properly at least around here. Has a problem changing coolant bc it’s different and they drained it before checking to see if it was in stock. Car sat for weeks waiting for coolant !

I changed the oil in my '22 M550 today for the first time....around 5000 miles. I will probably have the dealer do it at 10,000 but I wanted to do the first change sooner than 10,000 miles.

I was a bit surprised how much it held. After draining it and what was in the filter, I got out 11 quarts. I put in two 5 quart jugs and did the measurement. It was near the max and well above the minimum so I will not add any more at this time.

Overall, it was a pretty straightforward job, really no different than any other car.

It's crazy how much oil the M550 takes. I think it's 11.2 quarts. I remember when 5 quarts was a lot.

Those look like it's just the stickers which are $188 bucks:

https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/5...ADHESIVE-FILMS

Although maybe I see the thin black lip? If it has the extensions, the lip along the bottom, add another $191 times two

They are decals that were on the car when I bought it. I assumed they were factory or dealer installed.

That's not his lift, the OP has the lift. They run around $4,000, not really that bad or as expensive as you would think.

Agreed. Sold my wife on the cost when I said "think how much safer I'll be than working with jack stands."

Of course, if you have a lot of life insurance or your relationship with your wife isn't the best, this may not be a selling point.

I paid $3,080 for the lift including having it shipped to an installer in 2018. I then paid $850 to have the installer bring it to my home and install it. I did my own electrical. I just checked the current pricing and DAMN! It is showing $5,235 + tax and free shipping for the Bendpak XPR-10AS-LP. For my location, that totals up to $5,654.08. That's nearly a 55% increase in price in four years.

Hey, I was pretty close to what you paid 4 years ago! They will come down again. I am sure these are made overseas, pretty much transport costs are inflating any big items.
