This may be a dumb question but how do you get to the fuse cover. The felt in the trunk looks to be one large piece. Do you just take the clips near the tail light and pull on the rest of it to get it off?

Kinda scared to pull on anything since she's only 2 days old. If anyone has any pictures of the process or the actual fuse to pull that would be really helpful!

Thank you!

The little folded up piece of paper in your picture is a map of the fuses

That's too funny fellow Texan!

I feel your pain. 2 days into ownership I felt the same!

1 year later I am fearless with the help of this forum

Is this the right fuse that should be pulled? The one by the blue arrow?

Thanks!

Do not see a blue arrow. The diagram is in this thread on Page 1:

M550 exhaust flaps open = much better sound

It's the very first column on the left. The small red 7.5 fuse. You can use the red tool in the middle to pull out the fuse. Make sure to you are in sport+ mode and the flap is open.

Thanks a lot!

I originally thought it was the fuse by the blue arrow. Guess I was wrong.

So the fuse by the yellow arrow is the correct one and I have to pull that out while I'm in sport plus mode.

The fuse chart linked above is all you need and is very clear. These threads are more helpful if you start at the beginning where the details are. Will save you a lot of time waiting for others to respond.

I normally do start at the beginning of the thread, as I did here also.

In this case, It's my dumb OCD kicking in and trying to triple check even though the answer is right in front of me lol.

I think I got it all figured out now, thanks for all the help

I just pulled the fuse on mine this afternoon but haven't had a chance to drive it. Looks like the flaps are open in all modes after starting it a few times.

Look forward to driving it to see how it sounds. A part of me likes having the exhaust quite at times then hit sport plus to hear it rumble. Will be interesting to see if this mod "sticks" with me since its so easy to revert.

Do you guys like the sound of it being louder?

It's actually not that loud and responds appropriately to throttle input. In casual driving it has enough of a rumble to be a subtle reminder this is not your grandma's sedan. No droning at cruising, but for some who want a vault-like cabin, it may not be their thing.

I think it is the perfect amount of engine sound for this car.

Does pulling the fuse also kill the sound piped into the cabin?

No. That will require coding using Bimmercode, etc. Search for that here and elsewhere.

Thanks! Just trying to understand what I am hearing. Not sure how I feel about this as I love hearing the rumble kick in when you throw it into sport plus.

Thanks!

Sorry for coming in very late here....but couldnt you just install an ExhaustMeister..as long as your car has a vacuum system this should work....I have it on my M6 F06 and it works perfect, will now get an M550ix and will just move it over to that car, I think the vacuum controller is located in the trunk on the left hand side, under the carpet panels, its like a 10 min install....

If I coded the car via BimmerCode to start in Sport individual mode, does this mean that the flaps will be always open?... this is instead of pulling the fuse.

The fuse needs to be pulled when the car is running in Sport mode at idle and the flaps are open. Once it is pulled, it will stay in the state it is in at that time.

Elephant in the room - does that fuse slot affect anything else? Thanks!

Debating between bimmerlink and just pulling the fuse.
