Issues after Oil service

Hi All,

28 March 2019: I went in for my first oil service and got the air con service sorted at the same time as well as get my summer wheels put on.
On leaving the garage they did not inflate the tyres pressure to the correct pressure and had to then go and fill it up myself.

12 May 2019 : After travelling back from a long drive from London to Newcastle Upon Tyne we found there was an oil leak. As we could see smoke coming from the bonnet and a burning smell coming into the interior of the car when we had just pulled up home. Called the BWM assistance guys and they came out right away. You could see where the oil had leaked as the guy showed us. He said it looks like the leak came from the rocker cover and leaked because of that. They took the car away and got a replacement hire car for now.

28th June 2019: The car was back in due to the smell of the oil still in the car and the front grills not opening. They cleaned the engine they said and replaced the bottom radiator blind and scratched the bonnet while cleaning it.

9th July 2019: The car was in for the scratch on the bonnet to be rectified.

29th July: The coolant low indicator came on, The coolant was topped up about 9 months earlier and considering it is just gone 2 years now this is too soon for it to be topped up again. They have done some diagnosis and found that there was a coolant leak and have replaced the cooling hose. At the same time i have got them to look over the whole engine as i stated i don't want to be in a situation when i am out of warranty something happens and i will have a big bill.

I have been told i should get the car back friday 2nd August so will update further then or if anything comes up sooner.

Anyone else have any of these issues?

G30 530i M Sport i have

Thanks

UPDATE:

31st July: Got the car back and they said that the coolant hose has been replaced and they have filled it up again. Then tested and checked if any leaks after it had cooled down then test drove again. In regards to the grills they said that those are fine.

I then said in regards to the engine what happens if after warranty something happens then? They said that as its a known fault if they keep happening BMW may be able to help with that. Which is a bit pants as i think that may be just lip service. Got a couple of London trips coming up so will be about 1200 miles done so will get another good run and will see what happens.

Going to give it 6 months and see how it goes. As i know the guys well one of the salesman i know offered the new 3 as he knew i wasnt happy with this for a good deal. But the 5 is a 5 and 3 is a 3. Just didnt feel the same or anything better. But it does look great the new 3. They said its nly 6 inches shorter than the new 5.

Nearly 22k done in year and half. Only one service so far but no major issues. Had an oil over the limit error about 9 months ago if my memory serves right. It was sorted with a software update.

That does seem like a fair old list - sorry to hear that... The coolant (at least when new) is a known issue, but like you i'd be a bit cross if it kept on displaying a low coolant message. Did they say why your rocker cover gasket (I assume it was that) failed? I'd perhaps suggest taking it the dealer if they offer some sort of end of warranty check (either the one you use now or another one if you feel you need a different opinion). if you don't mind spending a few £'s then it could be worth getting a reputable independent BMW specialist to go over the car - particularly engine, suspension, etc. I'd probably go the latter route for piece of mind.

The rocker cover seal wasnt sitting down right so after they done the service they may not have checked. OR they may not have seen it as twisting it back on. It looked like the rubber was slightly folded over. This is what the guy who checked it out before taking it away told me. It can happen sometimes. But thats not my fault its them who did the service.

How much you think an independant specialist may charge for something like this? I live in the North East Newcastle Upon Tyne. So not sure where to look?

I'm not 100% sure how much an independent might charge - I can't imagine it would be more than an hour or two's work though, so perhaps £150, somewhere in that region? I'd use google to find some places and look at the reviews - you can also often tell how competent these places are very quickly on the phone!
