M550i Exhaust Sounds

My M550i should arrive in late April and I’m coming out of a 2018 M3 Competition. I’m curious to know how the M550i sounds in Sports/Sports + mode(s) when I punch it. Will it produce a good, throaty rumble, similar to my M3, or will it be much more muted. Just curious……Thanks!

ASD will make it rumble inside the car. In reality, probably more muted than you’re used to. We had this discussion earlier this week. One cheap mod is to cut out one of the two resonators. That will make it sound more like an M850. A step further would be to cut out both resonators. You can find clips on YouTube of any exhaust mod you can think of.

In stock M550 form the exhaust is better sounding than the M5.
The hotter it gets, the louder and more pops and bangs are heard.
During the summer months I can easily make some obnoxious noises in Sport + by downshifting or letting off the throttle.

It's a fun car. You will love it.

my apologies i thought you meant the inside fake sound

exhaust i don't know i can't hear it

but i know what it sounds like if you rev it in the garage and let off the gas

however revving the engine and wide open throttle will produce different airflow, exhaust pipe and gas temperature, so i'm guessing the sound will be louder, and whether it's different i don't know

reminds me i need to get a mic to tape to the back to record my driving ...

Plenty of videos on YT. Sport will sound a bit more aggressive than Comfort mode, mostly because of the more aggressive down shifts, but most people wanting more sound modify the exhaust. It will not sound like your M3. The reality is that you aren't going to hear it modified or not unless you have the windows down, these cars are super insulated. Definitely disable ASD if you want to hear what the car actually sounds like (and it will also improve the audio acoustics of the entertainment system).
