Trying to buy a new 540i
Let me warn you: this may turn into a rant.
I keep getting emails from BMW offering phenomenal deals on a 2019, so I test drove one (nice) and asked for quotes from 3 different local dealers on similar in-stock cars. All are low option cars, white, convenience package. I don't care for white particularly, but everything else has too many options and although I like HUD I don't want to pay nearly $2K for it. BMW web site says: $3250 lease credit or $5000 APR credit (financing) and the $1000 loyalty should be added on top of that. But the quotes I'm getting show a better discount (thousands) on a lease. And natch none of the quotes break down the discount, rebates, incentives, etc. except for one, and it was wrong (showing $2250 lease credit). I'm not eligible for a corporate discount, or military, or anything like that. I can get another $1000 USAA and of course my CCA rebate (neither of which I'm counting yet). One dealer tacks on $900 for nitrogen and other nonsense, another wants $700 for the $200 tint job, and the other is actually more straight-forward, but the lowest priced car they have has got more options than I want, and I don't like the interior color. I don't mind traveling for a really good deal, but the shopping exercise is annoying me greatly. I've bought lots of cars in my day, and instead of getting easier it seems to be getting more difficult. I'm open to suggestions, sympathy or even a reality slap if needed.

You're at the end of the model year. 2019 inventory is dwindling. My guess is you'd have a lot more options available if you were ok with a 530i.
That said, search dealers within a reasonable distance to you. Also, the dealer who seemed reasonable, you can ask them to search neighboring dealers for a trade. The better dealers will do a swap, but it might cost you a few $ if they have to transport it. Or try the web. I believe www.cars.com aggregates inventory from dealers. It's probably not entirely accurate, but worth a try. Or get a list of dealers and hit their websites and/or the phone. I wouldn't deal with dealers selling nitrogen and other crap or another that pre-tints a car. Or maybe that car was sold and the customer rejected /changed their mind at last minute....maybe try telling them to eat it or remove it! Good luck.

When I was looking for mine most dealers were willing to do swap, just couldn't find exactly what I want in the end so order the car instead. I was talking to upstate NY dealer who is willing to swap with car from NC, so would imagine you can get someone to work hard...

The nitrogen folks are Hendrick, and they're notorious for that. My M2 that I bought from them had $10K worth of crap added on to it (tint, K40, wrap, nitrogen, etc.) and when it came time to negotiate, I wrote it all off (except for about half of the "cost" of the K40 and wrap). Those people really annoy me. Unfortunately, M2s are hard to find. The other dealer with the tint has only recently started doing that, and no, it's not a return, they slap tint on everything now, even service loaners. But yes, they need to eat it. It's just an attempt at additional profit.

Transfers are always an option, but natch you have to consider the additional costs.

they were willing to swap car for "free" (of course someone pays something somewhere), but my line has always been I don't care if you swap or not I'm not paying more and just take another better bid from elsewhere and ask them to match
