Why waste a favorite button when one press of a steering wheel button and two spoken words will do it?

I'm often on the phone pal. It doesn't work anyway from what I see. Also would like to save two buttons for CarPlay features. Can't seem to get that to save either. Is there a list of what's savable?

CarPlay and a few other things will only save when you have it highlighted on iDrive. You can't be in CarPlay mode listening to music for example and then just hold down the preset button. It won't let you do that.

So you need to be in FM, AM, XM, etc (anything other than CarPlay mode) and then using your iDrive knob scroll down to CarPlay to highlight CarPlay (do not click CarPlay- just highlight it). At that point, you can press whichever preset button you want it saved to.

This is a cool thread idea. Glad it got revived from 2+ years ago haha.

Not sure how others are saving apps... I have some contacts saved, navigation maps but nothing like everyone else is saying. Some stuff saves. Others don't.

I frequently toggle between my music collection and satellite radio using the buttons.

Maybe someone can help. I recently had the software updated and I can't seem to set it up the way is was before the service. 1 was a satellite station and 2 was my music collection. Pushing 2 would resume what was playing. Now, it plays the first song in the collection every time I press 2 which is annoying. Yes, it is set to random. Every song played after the first is random. It wont let me save music collection from the media screen but I can save folders. When I press the media button and scroll to music collection, it resumes play where it left off but I can't get memory buttons to behave this way anymore. Hopefully I'm missing something simple. Thanks!

If what you want to save (on a Memory Button) that is up on the iDrive screen can't be saved...try walking iDrive back to the previous selection...then try to save it there.

Like someone wrote early on in the thread...if you have the sport display coded on...if you attempt to save that screen...it wont save. But if you scroll back to the previous screen...you can save it from that screen. Fortunately for that feature...iDrive will take you right to the sport display. But sometimes it will take you to the screen where you can quickly select it with one press of the iDrive controller...which saves you multiple steps from having to "drill" down to it.

MEMORY BUTTON SAVES:

1. Presets (instead of wasting buttons on multiple radio station...I created a page of presets with the AM/FM/Satellite station listed in the order that I'm most likely to listen/select. I can then easily scroll through the list and change selections with the button on the steering wheel). On my iteration of iDrive, I can save up to 30 presets.
2. Parked-Car Ventilation screen
3. OBC Info/split screen (usually w/map showing on other half)
4. Entertainment Info/split screen (usually w/map showing on other half)
5. TPM screen
6. Sport Display
7. (Empty)
8. Home (but its not named home to prevent anyone with evil intent that gets access to my car...from having a turn-by-turn directive to my home to strip it clean of everything! )

Amazes me no other manufacturers do this - its really a great feature.
For older folks, its great that you can program the buttons like "Phone xxxx" or "Nav home", etc. eliminating the daunting task of teaching/figuring out the electronics.

BTW...I don't understand why BMW would take that programmable button away and give it a dedicated function that they could take away. This could leave you with a totally useless function...hogging a programmable function.

I say that from the prospective of a 2013 model year owner...where BMW discontinued support for Connected Drive. I'd be pissed if one of my buttons was wasted.

Too bad you don't have an 8th preset button...because you could program your divorce lawyers number for when your wife runs her finger across your preset buttons and sees #2, #5, & #7.
