SF Bay Area - Best driving roads for a Sunday morning blast?
Hi folks,
Following is a compilation of driving roads for an early Sunday morning blast (and a few to possibly avoid) in the SF Bay Area. Recommendations are from either: .
To enjoy many of these roads, you often need to be out there at the crack-of-dawn so as to find them mostly empty. If you leave it to later in the day, you'll frequently be inundated with cyclists/traffic/etc. That's just a fact of life when living in the SF Bay Area... As regards my personal preferences, I'm partial to roads with: .
They're grouped by region as follows: .
If you've any recommendations of your own that should be added to this list, please post in this thread with sufficient detail so that people know the exact route (e.g. providing a Google Maps link works great). And for reference, the following was last updated as of: November 25th, 2022 North Bay
East Bay
South Bay / Santa Clara County
Santa Cruz Mountains & County
Peninsula / San Mateo County
Points further away from the SF Bay Area North
Karl. PS: Other sites with similar information/recommendations... .

Bear creek is one one of my favorites! Have to emphasize GO EARLY (for the East Bay, but probably any of these really)... otherwise you will be sharing the road with a lot of bicyclists

Does anyone know of additional roads that should be added to my original post?
Thanks. Karl.

Jk you *could* add marsh creek / morgan territory to the list as it’s a beautiful stretch - the caveat is that I think the F8X is just too powerful for that road. It’s quite a tight road with lots of corners to take but very few sections to really open it up... and when they do come up they usually end in a blind corner. I think it’s much better suited to a smaller platform with a less powerful motor that you can actually rev out and enjoy. I’m literally mostly in 3rd gear the entire time I drive that road with an occasional shift to 2nd (DCT for gearing reference). If you’re going fast enough to hit 4th, you may go off a cliff

Can you provide specifics, especially the start/end points of your recommended route? A Google Maps route-link is best (see top-post for examples). Thanks. Karl.

They do, thanks!
It'll be a day or so before I can get around to updating the top post. Will ping this thread when I do. Regards, Karl.

EDIT: Added a clarification that the recommendation came with a few caveats.

This is great man thanks for doing this. Have you download the "Roads" app by Porsche? My friends and I will be going on a couple drives from there soon.

I used an earlier version of it called Porsche GTS Routes back in 2016. Here's an example: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post14226334
In fact, the very earliest incarnation of my list of SF Bay Area roads used URLs from that site. However, the Site & App was buggy and I gave up on it by switching over to using Google Maps URLs. Good job I did because Porsche eventually stopped supporting GTS Routes and the old links are now dead. Looks like the newer "Roads" app is the replacement for GTS Routes. But even if Roads is working well today, I'd still put my faith in Google Maps having better longevity/stability/support. It's too much bloody work to re-do this stuff. Karl.
