Pulled the trigger, now I wait too! 2021 M550i Build

Hi all. I had originally been searching around for a decently discounted HEA M3, but decided to test drive a local M550i one day and knew this was the car for me!

I worked with a great local dealership, and they were able to give me a pretty good deal without much push-back. I ended up getting 9% off MSRP on a custom build, base MF, plus incentives.

I have received a build number and have been checking frequently for an update, though I'm currently sitting at 111 status. I opted for aventurine red metallic, so I know this will add some additional time to the build.

Here's what I went with:
2021 BMW M550i xDrive Sedan
Color: (ind) Aventurin Red Metallic
Upholstery: Ivory White Nappa Leather with contrast stitching
Options:
Driving Assistance Plus Package
Shadowline Package
Parking Assistance Package
Premium Package
20" M Y-spoke bi-color jet black wheels, style 846M
Heated Steering Wheel
M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers
Fineline Cove Matte Finish Wood Trim

Super excited as this is my first build with BMW (though 5th purchase). Looking forward to joining the club!

Edit: Got an update, I am week 50.

Congrats! That's an awesome colour. I'm yet to see an Aventurine Red 5 in the flesh.

Congrats! I am waiting on mine now too! The red is definitely a bold color - I would love to see pictures when you get it!

Thanks! I'm tired of black, white, silver, etc cars. Wanted to go outside the box a little this time around.

BMW Genius said my vehicle is slated to BEGIN production week 50, Dec 7th. Any idea where this might land me for delivery?

That seems so late. I ordered mine on October 17th and production started on the 21st. Must be a bunch of orders now for the end of the year?

Wow, that's quick! Maybe it's because I have the individual ext color? My SA says it is currently week 50, but will likely change as the process roles forward.

Typically the average time from production start to delivery being ready is 50-54 days. It can be as short as about 45, or as much as 60+ if there are delays. And that could include weather or shipping delays etc.

Your SA can give you some guidance, but from the forum posts and timeframes I've seen, that's about the norm for cars coming from Germany. X cars from NC come much faster obviously.

Hah.. I ordered mine on October 17th as well and my production is not scheduled to start until the week of Nov 9. Talk about a wait. I wonder if I'll see my car in 2020.

I have been in the "paint booth" the last 3 days... definitely think I am on the assembly line or being assembled by now, but it is delayed on the tracker.

I assume you don't receive any sort of notification or e-mail when the status changes?

Being a nerd with too much time on my hands, I built an automated workflow on a schedule to login, check for status change, then e-mail me if there's an update. :/ I think I need a hobby.

LOL nice... I just obsessively check the website at least 10 times a day.

Update -- I went into 112 status late last week. Originally, BMW Genius had said my car was scheduled to START production week 50, December 7th.

I called today for an update since it's now status 112. I was told that my vehicle is currently in the queue to start production. They didn't have any details on what that meant or a particular start date. I asked if that means it's pretty close to starting, he said yes.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but does this sound like my car will be jumping into production much sooner than expected?!

Great news! I think ours was only a few days from the queue to starting production, so fingers crossed for you.

Not much to report, though I'm a little confused on the information I've been given from BMW Genius and what I'm seeing on the tracker.

Current timeline:
10/28 - 111 - Order Received
11/12 - 112 - Scheduled for production

One thing has been consistent, I've been told my build date is week 50 (Dec 7-14). However, I've had BMW Genius tell me twice now (once on the 12th and once today) that my vehicle is currently in the production queue, where they're lining up everything needed for my vehicle production. He also confirmed he still sees me at status 112.

So, am I scheduled for production or actually 'in' production? Because status 150 is exactly the description of the stage he said I was in -- "in production queue".

He also mentioned that from order to delivery, the process generally takes 8-10 weeks and that he estimates that I'm roughly halfway through that right now. Hard to believe because the status I've been staring at for 12 days is 112 :/

Just check my thread and you will see the timeline my car has gone through and some extra notes. It was 15 days between Production Scheduled and Production Begins but started over a week earlier than I was told by BMW Genius.

There doesn't seem to be much preciseness too it. My car is also 12 days into being dispatched to the port. BMW Genius cannot see anything I don't but my CA says I already arrived at the port. So I have no idea what's going on. I just trust it must be going as quickly as it can and there's nada I can do to speed it up. Although accurate updates would be nice. They're the ones offering and advertising these features after all. However, my guess is COVID-19 is probably having an impact across the board and we just have to be patient ... even though that sucks. 😆
