Clear coat

I have a 2018 540i with BMW individual paint Blue Hera Mica Metal. My three year warranty runs out in July 2021. I have noticed that the clear coat on my paintwork has come away in at least four different places. Wing mirror, front panel under the headlight and the back right wheel arch.

Is the repair of this covered under my three year warranty??

I'd imagine either corrosion or bumper to bumper.

Get pictures, dates, and get to the dealer ASAP

Failure of the paint at less than 3 years certainly sounds like a defect that should be covered on warranty unless this clear coat failure was somehow caused by the vehicle owner.

Perhaps there was some incompatibility with the clear coat and the blue here mica base coat, or maybe improper drying time between coats. Tough to say what happened during the BMW Individual paint process.

I would not call BMW. That might suggest doubt in the OP's mind that the warranty applies. I would go to the dealership and treat it as a routine warranty issue.

Definitely go to the dealer and get their help on how to deal with the problem, at least as a first step. If you have a good relationship with the service department they should be willing to help. --Bob

Thing is I bought the 540 in England, so a dealer here in Ireland might not want to touch it. I was told by the English dealer at the time that it was a three year international warranty but you know how fidgety some dealers can be. Ill give it a go on Monday and see how I get on.
