Extended Warranty from dealership (Canada)?
Hi,
I recently bought a 530i. I spoke to the dealership and I have been given time to decide whether I would be opting for the extended warranty. I reside in Canada. I was wondering if you had any suggestions regarding getting the warranty from dealership or is there another third party company that would be a better option? Bumper to Bumper warranty. I intend on keeping the car for 6-8 years. Thank you |

I just went through this. Bought a 2018 540xi from BMW dealer with 60k kms about 4 months ago. 4 year / 40,000km warranty from BMW Canada (2nd party) was offered at $8,000 + tax (=$9,000). I decided to pass as I don't think the odds of it paying off were high at that price. Around $5,000 I probably would have taken it.
I intend on probably keeping the car forever, especially if things continue in the electric direction. |

Kelowna BMW in British Columbia sold me an extended warranty from CollisionOne. On a 2018 M550iX purchased used in late 2019, the cost was only $3000 usd and takes me to 6 years and 140,000km. I have not needed it, and it expires next month. I was intending to daily drive the car, then the pandemic hit and I ended up continuing to drive my E39 540 M-Sport instead. I only have about 25,000km on the car now.
CollisionOne offers various plans and I purchased the Ultimate which has the most covered items and $200 cad deductable. I was suprised when shopping in BC, none of the BMW dealers offered the BMW extended warranty stating they were very unpopular due to the cost and all dealers offered third party extended warranty plans. All had their favorite that their service departments had good experience with. |

Hilarious because the sales pitch from the local BMW dealer here in Toronto was to only trust and take their warranty and avoid all 3rd party warranties!

I went with it since the dealer was selling it and their service dept was endorsing it, as they had no issues with claims over the past few years. My problem with extended warranties is everytime I bite, I never end up needing it, and when I pass, then a problem arises and I wished I had it. |
