530e feels " out of control " at high speed .
Last week i went on a short holiday and drove the car at high speeds for the first time . Onze above 180km/h ( around 113 MP/h) the car really becomes a challenge to control . Its takes full concentration to keep it straight in its lane . I do have the heavy 530e , combined with 20" low profile runflat tires . Would that be the explenation or is there a possible susspension problem ?

I only have the standard 18" on runflats, and I have not had that feeling at all. My max speeds are only around 80-90MPH, but if anything it feels more planted at speed than it does going a slow 65MPH. I have even achieved that using snow tires (Michelin x-ice III) and no issues. At what speed does it start to feel like it is starting to become a challenge?

I have the 540i M Sport with MPPSK and it's solid as a rock at high speeds, never had a problem with speed and control.
Yours needs checking.

I drove BMW before , had an e46 and an e91 . Those were superb at high speeds . The e91 with the runflat was not as good , when it was on its winterrims without runflat it was perfect . On the g30 now i think its to much , and the 20" , and the low profile tyre and the runflat and the weight of the battery . Should ask the dealer to change the rims to try it maybe .

I haven't taken my 530e to that speed but I did once pass a car at just over 100 mph on a steep hill. It felt rock solid and felt like I was only going 60.
I would think that the 530e would be more stable as it has all that extra weight down low. If you car is behaving that way, I think you need to have it looked at. |

OP: Where do you live?
At least here in the US anything above 75-80MPH can land you in trouble and with our generally bad roads is not really encouraging to break triple digit speeds. With that said, my 530i with 19" wheel/tire Bridgestone runflats combo feels planted on the road and on rails. Let me ask you? Have you checked your tire pressures? Under inflation/over inflation can impact the vehicle steering feel and stability at speed.

Get the car out on a lift and checked for suspension issues.

Definitely sounds like an issue. Mine (although not a 530e) is absolutely rock solid at speed. I'd take yours along to the dealer and see what they say - sounds like something more than something simple like tyre pressures etc.

I drive my 530e at “higher speeds” every now & then. I’m on staggered Pirelli P-Zero 20” RFTs and non-Msport suspension, and my car feels rock solid at over 100mph.
Granted I’m not sitting there for an extended period of time at over 110mph, but I have full confidence in my car at that speed. |

Allright , i will get in touch with the dealer about this . Will keep you guys up to date . Like stevemondragon says , he feels confident at those speeds , i do not in this car . My previous car was a Peugeot and even that was solid at speeds up to 120mph .

I have a 530d Touring M Sport with adaptive suspension on 19" wheels. On a recent trip to Germany I too felt the car was quite unstable once over about 100 mph. It felt like there was a constant stiff crosswind and didn't inspire confidence. The tyre pressures were correct. Sport mode was marginally better than adaptive or comfort but not a great improvement.
Has anyone had similar issue and has it been resolved? Car is booked in on15th August so I'll see if they find anything. |

So we have some pretty high winds in my area the last couple of days and just sitting in traffic I've really noticed a large amount of buffeting from the wind against the side of the car. I've not experienced that with any previous cars I've had. The last BMW being an E60 535d M sport.
Maybe it's just the feeling you get in this car from side winds. When you look at it, it's pretty flat sided.
