BMW M550 Carbahn dyno results

2020 m550 with Carbahn tune flashed at bmw. Has CTS intakes and Remus midpipe, both i highly recommend for the sound love love love it, great combo but probably like 10 horsepower combined and probably not in any spot that adds value lol.

Done at ACI Dynamix in Shelton, Ct. About 85 degrees and 85% humidity. Not ideal by a long shot. Aci runs a mustang dyno. These run lower numbers than the other types of dynos. But in the end, numbers are just for a rough idea of power since different dyno’s and fuckery with calibration make them a tad arbitrary . Ideally, draggy times are more accurate.

Low was 576 tq and 572 hp to the wheels with high of 608tq and 602hp. So rough 590 avg to the wheels on a nasty hot day and on a mustang dyno. Carbahn quoted 580 to the wheels. Looks like they were not lying!!! So needless to say, i recommend this safe tune for anyone looking for crazy power gains.

I didnt take any video. Unfortunatley, they just start rinning it and didnt tell me. Pretty shitty of them.

Im assuming it was the 480-490 wheel horse. I never did any stock dyno runs

I didnt get the warranty they offer. Feel like its a money grab and a toss up if theyd cover anything. If its normal wear and tesr thats one thing, but i bet if somethingbrole while hammering on it i bet they would call it racing and wouldnt cover shit. Who knows. But im gentle on my car and dont race.

Yeah I know what you mean. I just got a 540i and wanted to flash it like my last car but was trying to play it safe for a little while but if something goes wrong and I’m covered I’m happy if it’s actually legit, but I’ll read more into it, great numbers tho!!

Did you code to go 200 on just the dash or also able to remove the 130 mph limit ?

Also, is your Remus midpipe connected to your stock exhaust ?

I coded it with Bimmercode. The car was 160 before limited at 155. With the tune, its de restricted. Itll hit 170mph insanely quick.

The Remus mid pipe goes from the cats and clamps to the stock exhaust. Exhaust needed to be cut but its a fairly quick mod. And way cheaper than acle back muffler. Id post a sound clip but it wont let me post videos….

Just better pads. Apparently the stock rotors are really good. So far, ive never run out of brakes and ive hit them hard at very high speeds

What pads you go with? I just got the bluestuff ndx to go with Brakenetic RS rotors. Not installed yet though.

I should preface, I'm in m850i so the rotors might be bigger.

Re the tune- how's the pickup without downshifting, say from 3k? I noticed my motor isn't very responsive unless I manually shift and keep the revs high or floor it. This makes for not the most fun driving experience. I'm hoping the tune can help mid range response.

Stock pads so far also. The M Sport brakes have a lot of bite but i will say, i dont race and theres not repeated hard braking. You want race brake pads and rotors , it comes with noise and dust. Ive braked from160 down to 60 with no issues YET! But they are starting to squeal so life on them is running out. Ill probably upgrade pads to a Hawk street/race cross but thats it.

Under 80, its very safe. You have to hit the button under the pedal to get it to move its ass in a hurry. Having said that, i wanna pass someone, its a foot flex and its 105 mph passing them on a back road. But you do have to ring its neck a little to get it to respond. Its almost “too safe”. I wonder if a trans tune will help by removing some of the torque limits. But…im never short on power ever lol

I never have to use more than half throttle. Like…ever.

So just for clarity here, I’m a newbie to tuning…

You mentioned it was flashed at bmw? As in a BMW dealership?

Mind if I ask how much? I think the “chip” tune from carbahn alone is $1000, right?

The xhp stage 2 tcu tune is good but only with sport plus. Then the shifts slap pretty hard. Lim not sure that will affect throttle response.

Yeah. It was a bmw dealership but not all have carbahn. Honestly, find a tuner shop that deals with them directly. That way before they send them the tune, ask them to turn off cold start or if youre catless they can tweak it. You dont have the ability to tweak stuff at the dealership. They wont call carbahn and get your file tweaked for you. Maybe they will. Gotta ask i guess.

I got a veteran discount so it was $1350. I didnt get the warranty. To me, not worth it. Money grab in my mind. I wont beat my car so the chances are low it will bust my engine. I also switched to Motul 5W40 and 3000-5000 oil changes. With a tune, i think the 5w30 or 5w40 is a must.

Not the throttle reaponse, but allowing more horsepower to come through instead of cutting some out to safe guard the trans and the engine. The trans tune cuts out the torque limits but not sure if that helps cause the tune itself also does.

I wanna know how the xhp is on the downshifts are. I hate the stock downshifts. Such a half ass throttle blip. Its more of a clutch slip. I want a hard throttle blip that sounds awesome and matches revs.
