Is this real for the m550?!

This has been the major holdback on the 550 for me. I've read a lot of old posts but can't seem to find a current provider for this.

Someone please help? Signing papers on a 540 tomorrow which I would not do if I can do remove this easily.

Thanks!!

do you mean you just want it to start up quiet?

you can start a m550i a 1000 times and not a single person would look at you. being honest here. if you want it a tad bit louder you can start it in sports mode - but its really not even worth the trouble. others can chime in.

there is also fake noise being pumped inside, and there is an option which allows you lower it on comfort mode.

Yes. Want it to be quieter.
When bmws start for about 20-30 seconds they idle with higher revs to warm the catalytic converters apparently.

I understand to most this is not a problem. But in a quiet neighborhood at 530am the car is going to be heard.

From some research I found bootmod3, alpine and MHD, Providing tunes that have a cold start delete for the m550 engine.

Just looking for some real world users bc this stuff has the potential to violate warranty. Not sure if any solutions that don't.

Mine is pretty loud on a cold start, especially in the garage. I am sure all my neighbors hear it, not that I care. I do have a full Dinan cat back though.

The crazy thing is that the b58 is not a church mouse either. The difference btw the two engines on start up might be pretty minimal

Is there really not a single M550 within 100 miles around you?

You are committing to a 3 year lease. I really think you should do yourself a favor and test drive / play around with one before you drive yourself and everyone relevant nuts in the process lol.

Honestly it's a lot quieter than I expected. Really just gotta go for it and not look back, or the regret is going to drive you nuts.

Thanks Greywall

I think you are right. I'm driving freaking everyone nuts bc ultimately the 540 is not gonna have that extra factor to it.

Worst case - Ill never remote start. I hop in and just drive away.

It might be fate, the same dealer I negotiated the 540 on had a customer get an m5 instead of their m550 scheduled to be delivered in 2 weeks (it's in Cali atm?).

Carbon black - no shawdowline which I wish it had..otherwise is 91k sticker, pretty much has the works including DHP. Oddly it doesn't have parking assistance (oh well)

They warned me tho- they won't be as nice on this one.

No M550i allocations you could grab? That way you can order it with the exact options and colors you want and not have to settle on anything. I figured if was paying 90k for a car, it had to have all the things I want on it... nothing less nothing more. Just a thought.

The wait sucks, I just went through that. But 2-3 months don't compare with 36 or more months of pure bliss! BTW the fact that this was the last year of the V8 made it a must buy instead of a lease. I'm keeping this thing until it falls apart or I get sick of it.

There is a reason the BMW engineers designed the "cold start" feature and that is to get the O2 sensors and cats up to temperature quickly. I would recommend if noise is really that big of a concern, why not just get an EV? You can also bring the RPM down by simply putting the car in gear as soon as you start it.

They wouldn't move on the 550. Looking at 1350 a month to lease compared to the 995 on the 540. Another comparison, if build a 550 it would be around 1200/month.

I started with my fully loaded 540 broker build for 937/mo. I can accept 995 to get the 540 now but 1350 is too rich even for my need it now mindset.

I could ask my broker to remove me from the 540 build and I could wait for a new 550 allocation. Not sure when that would be…

At least the next few hours, I've decided to move forward on the 540 race blue that's in stock now. Haha.

After owning and experiencing the Parking Asst and Lux Seating Pkg, those are two packages I would skip with no regrets.

Haha no!!

I'm supposed to sign tomorrow now. I got back to him too late yesterday and he had deliveries and hadn't got the paperwork to the finance department. So that allowed me to stew on it more..

Now, I'm really leaning towards a phytonic blue m550i that's in transit. I think me going crazy is bc I just won't be happy with a 540 and I'm trying to convince myself otherwise. Over and over and over again.

The phytonic is relatively bare bones for a 550. Shadowline, Executive package, parking assistance, heated steering. In a way it's a good thing for me. The 550 is more well equipped than a 540 to start and has everything that I would absolutely need. it's only 100 more a month than the fully loaded 540 and comes with adaptive suspension, just no DHP in the 550 and 540 has it.

High idle generally only lasts about 30 seconds when cold and I do not find it to be loud, even when starting in my garage.

I coded my car to start in sport mode and still do not consider it loud. After refueling at the gas station, it does turn heads on startup, but none of my neighbor’s have ever noticed or complained. I had a Jaguar F-Type which was very loud and an “event” on startup, the M550 is very tame in comparison.

Nothing against the 540 it is great. The M550 is the last of the powerful smooth high hp V8’s and brings smiles every time I drive it.

No regrets here.

Let's take a thanksgiving poll. What would you do ..

Option A - 995/mo for fully loaded artic race blue 540 with dhp

Option B - 1105 / mo for phytonic blue 550 with executive and parking assistance/ so compared to 540 it's missing DHP, nappa, massage and venting seats.

I don’t have DHP and the M550 is still awesome without it.

I had massage seats in my last 3 cars and rarely used the feature, a mediocre experience at best and waste of money if you ask me. The ventilated seats are also something you can live without, they aren’t great.

I would have gotten nappa if it was available in cognac. I have no regrets with the Dakota leather and love the color with Bernina grey. I simply could not get another black interior this time.

I am torn on the arctic race blue; not sure it is for me.

Musts are the parking assistance pkg (I do use the backup assistant, like the remote 3D view and drive recorder) and HUD. I also use the driving assistance frequently, especially in traffic.

I would vote for the M550, if money is not an issue. All the additional options on the 540 you can live without in my opinion. Its nice to say you have a fully loaded car and get caught up with that before a purchase, but what will you really use after 6 months?

You will use and love the V8!

Thanks for spelling all those features out in your response. Super helpful!

Hard not to agree with you too. I've always been a guy who prioritizes the performance over the luxuries.

Also, I think I like phytonic better than artic race blue. At least comparing both in sunlight. Artic could have an edge in the shadows.

Thank you.
Whole process is quick. Definitely loud but it's in a garage.

EOD, if my neighbors complained. i can suck it up not remote start my car and just drive off. I've read once in gear the noise is gone.
