hey for those of you who change oil at 5-7k, did you consider changing transmission fluid? if not why leave transmission for 60k?
thanks *I'm a - oil is cheap, engine is expensive mentality but i don't understand why that doesn't apply to transmission ... ! |

There's no combustion going on inside a transmission so no combustion byproducts to contaminate the oil. Yeah, transmission clutches wear, but that's mostly caught by the filter (until it clogs up). 60k seems to be the right compromise between wear of the oil/clutches and replacing the fluid. At 5-7k miles your transmission fluid will look brand new, your engine oil? Not so much.

I'm going to take the QX60 to Valvoline for an oil change and maybe a differential change. This car is at the bottom of the list of all my cars, but it is a friggin champ at a little over 100k with zero issues.
I would not even entertain taking any of my BMW's there, but you can't beat the convenience. Everyone at work goes to the one I am going to and they say they are solid. I'll probably get the kid that forgets to put the drain plug back on or forgets to refill the oil!

Every 5k or 6 months. That's what I did on my E90 and will continue to do with the G30.
