Driving long miles for girlfriend (sigh)

I have a gf who moved about one hour twenty minutes away and each week I visit and spend all day with her. I own a 2019 x3 and has about 10k miles for year one. (just turned one lol). And my original plan was to have it like 5-6 k miles a year to preserve it (i like detail cars etc.). But now since she moved , i'll be putting probally 250 miles on the trip alone (will be driving around the city etc , date night ). Part of me wants to just use my other car which is a mazda 3 with 185k miles I use for work etc, but seems no girl really likes that even though they don't mind (they like the finer things right). Anyways, I'll be using up lot of gas and lot of money on different date stuff and wondering if any of you guys have to visit your gf and drive long distance and rack up the miles. Now I'm guessing I'll be putting around 12-14k miles a year now (which is around avg but guess preserving is out of question).

Well, guess this will be good test of my patience and if it doesn't work out then, I'll just resell my car in few years and get a better car and remember to not find significant other that lives far. lol

You are driving a long distance every week to visit your girl.
But she makes you feel bad when you show up in the Mazda instead of the Bimmer?

If driving your Mazda so you can keep miles off of your x3 MAKES YOU HAPPIER, that’s what should matter - if she actually cares about you.

Get a new girlfriend man. Preferably one that cares about YOU more than what car you're driving her around in.

No she doesnt mind the mazda . Actually drove this first and she was still with me. I just felt bad that she had to put up with so part of me wants to be consistent and drive the better car (cleaner lol and newer and more vrrm vrrm) but some part of me is thinking that preserving is it good and she doesnt seem to mind too much. But females like finer things so thats why im pushing towards just driving the beemer and she put up with the mazda for 7 months. (Drove a lot with her )

Other thing is will be driving around city a lot so when i park theres those people who ding your car etc. which i get guards for but lot of unexpected things happen in the city still no matter how protexted you are.

Anyways will just drive it seemed she earned the wait

I have this habit. My last 3 GF have been long distance. In all fairness, the one before my current was living right next to me when I met her - like our patios almost touched which was great.......till she took a great job an hour away. Luckily it was in a town that my parents and sister lived in, so I had a tie to it already and we made it work for a few years.

My current lives in another state, but she has family in the same town I have a farm with a house on it, so we meet there for weekends when we can and I make the trip to her house when we can't. She wants out of her state when her last kid clears highschool in a few years, so she was looking to come back this way anyway.

The Z4, while a fun car....is NOT a great 3 hour drive cars for sure. I've contemplated sending it down the road for a more comfy cruiser, but the X5 does well in the mean time.

LD dating is not for the faint of heart or those that can't handle solitude. LOL

Even more reason to just drive it.

No point preserving an x3 imo it will depreciate no matter what.

Sell the Mazda, buy another X3. Now you can drive one, and "Preserve" the other one.

How much is a BJ once a week worth to you?
Wait... you do get a BJ at least, don't you?

This. This is where reality over emotion comes into play. Let's analyze. Cost of gas, wear and tear on vehicle, added miles, lost of time driving, value of time spent driving, loss time that could be spent relaxing and/or being productive for some cuddle time. At the end of the day, you end up back at your place with or without being satisfied. You could have done this and so much had you just stayed home.

Rent a different exotic car every weekend for the trip? Mass transit and make her drive you around? There are other options available...

props to you. I couldn't do the long distance thing.

Keep X5. Drive the beater mazda to see her. You could drive the X5 up on special occasions. A real woman wont be materialistic or care what car she is seen in.

I did it for a year in an X5, slapped 50 thousand miles on it in one year between the 200 mile round trip to see her and work...I actually enjoyed it though...most of it was highway miles where you could just cruise...say what you want about the N63 engine but it effortlessly pushed that 5300lb beast to 110+ on those long 3am drives coming home... Saved my life...going fast keeps the adrenaline pumping and keeps ya awake....I would have died if I drove slower...that was going to be my excuse if I ever got pulled over anyway ;-)

BMWs were meant to be driven!!!....forget that Mazda and enjoy the ride!

3 hours.....one way. But the weekends we can meet at my other place it is only an hour and my home base where I have family and friends anyway, so those are nice.

Heading that way after work today as a matter of fact.
