Can someone also provide the part number for the 6WB cluster for the G30 5 Series?

I have the 6WA cluster and want to upgrade. What parts do I need? And how is the coding going to work? I'm located in SoCal, CA.
I suspect this is a major undertaking. Good luck.

6WB retrofit isn’t that difficult. The biggest part is making sure you buy a cluster that is either brand new or has been properly cleared, as once it is paired to a car, it is locked unless someone clears it with special tools.

You can find the cluster on eBay by searching for “G30 6WB” for around $1100 for a new one. The only other part you would need is a new trim piece which is part #51459387222.

For install and coding, read my diy here from when I retrofitted it to my G01 X3. Process is pretty much the same for the G30.

I have a 2018 530e with 6WB. It works fine but I would not want the newer version with the reversed gauges. If you are like me, make sure you get the older, more traditional version.

Also...the 6WB display is set up to maximize your opportunity to extend mileage. That is not my reason for buying a phev and I find it annoying that the only way to get a tach is to put it in sport mode. That is fine except I also have the dynamic dampers and in urban driving I like to drive in adaptive mode. My solution is to code the car to use the Alpina blue display. I lose some of my electricity information but I get a tach all the time. So if you have a 530e for mileage economy reasons, don't do what I do but if your reasons are like mine (the environment and the ability to drive in the car pool lane), then also do the Alpina adjustment.

Interesting that it doesn't show a tach on the 6WB. The 2019 530e I test-drove only had the 6WA cluster, and it showed what I assumed was the 530e's equivalent of a tach but with the numbers in % points, and had blue "boxes" showing how far I could press the accelerator before the ICE kicked on based on how much battery it had. I am about to order a 2020 530e so it will come with the Live Cockpit Pro with the reversed gauges, which I'm sure it will take some getting used to.

That gauge is the one I am replacing with a tach via the Alpina display. I do lose the battery percentage gauge doing that but it still shows miles remaining. I don't personally need the rest of the phev stuff such as how intensively it is recharging when I brake.

My driving style is to do mostly all electric driving on local roads where I can't exercise the car and then drive more energetically on regular mode on higher speed and country roads. I never hypermile and I have never driven in Eco Pro either.

I work mostly from home (although my office, when I bother going in, is 20 miles away) and have a 240 volt charger in my garage so I can plug in during the day. For this combination, the 530e works nicely for me.

So, if I swap my 6WA cluster with a 6WB on 530E I won't get the SPORT mode Tach RPM counter?

You do get a tach on the MY2020 530e when in sport mode. This makes sense to me as a tach doesn't make a lot of sense when in eDrive mode and when in sport the ICE engine is always on so you have a much more sensible tach. Especially if you're using it for shifting or similar. I'd imagine in eDrive the engine RPMs can be a bit chaotic (like if it is turned on at 80MPH or something).

Yes..I was not referring to sport mode. I agree that it makes most sense if you are using it to manually shift your car. But even when not in sport mode, I like to see what my ICE is doing.

The great advantage of a digital display is that it can be customized. BMW has limited greatly the ability to customize the display. If I were trying to hypermile my car, then the display that came with my car would be great; but I don't hypermile and have no interest in doing that. It would be nice if BMW gave me the ability to swap out the right side gauge for a tach but it doesn't.

Ordered my 6WB digital cluster and can't wait to receive it! I just need to find a person to code my car in Los Angeles, CA.

How did this go for you? In OC and want to retrofit myself.

Thanks!

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but hoping that someone can steer me in the right direction.

I am in the middle of this retrofit myself for my G30 530e. I bought a 6WB online and it appears to be from a G11 or G12 7-series (P/N 62108782630).

I am using e-sys 3.40 with v.4.36.12_PSdZData_Lite. I installed the 6WB, then I successfully was able to change the VO/FA and add 6WB, calculate FA and write FA.

Since I have 6WA standard, I already had DKOMBI2. After I read the ECUs, I then coded HU-NBT and DKOMBI2 with the new FA. The HU went fine but I received an error with DKOMBI2 that the CAFD file was not found.

I then highlighted DKOMBI2 and clicked Detect CAF for SWE, but none of the CAFD were anywhere close to my current I-step. I coded a few of them and the kombi seems to work correctly except for the service information and the fuel tank.

I received errors that the fuel tank is reading empty but I have a full tank. Luckily I have a 530e with full battery, so I would be able to drive the car, but what settings may I have missed for the fuel tank? Once that is fixed, everything should work fine I think. Any ideas? Do I have to find the settings with the stock 6WA for the fuel tank and match them up for the 6WB? The 6WB came from EU so everything is in KPH and I'm sure I can change that in iDrive, but the fuel tank issue has me guessing.

Any advice would be great!

Anyone have any ideas? Just need someone to help show me where to look. Love seeing all the offers to help from others, just hoping someone can chime in.

Happy to report that the last CAFD file I flashed must have done the trick. The car just needed to sleep and all is working 100% upon a cold reboot/restart. 6WB is a great upgrade and now I finally have a tach on my 530e.

I followed the existing guides for coding the VO and injecting CAFD files for the F series, worked perfectly.

Shout out to shawnsheridan for being the only forum member to reply back and offer some guidance, it is greatly appreciated!! In the spirit of giving back, if anyone else ever has a question on this retrofit shoot me a PM, thanks.

Hey I'm planning to get this upgrade for my 2018 530e. Could you share link from where you got the new cluster from?
