18 m550ix
Hello
Im considering upgrading from my current f10 535i to a g30 m550i with under 30000 miles. Is there anything I should be looking for that might be a problem on these cars. From reading most of the comments here it looks to be bullet proof. Im going to get a pre delivery inspection done at my local bmw dealer as well. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thanks |

My 19 has 48K miles, and no significant problems. Had the grill shutters replaced, had the emergency call system battery replaced, and had an oil pan leak repaired, all under warranty. Otherwise, bullet proof so far. Best car I have ever owned.

My '18 M550 has been fantastic. Has around 35k miles. Zero issues so far. I came from a '20 m340 xdrive and really appreciate the more comfortable ride and the effortless torque.

46k miles on my '18M550, only a few minor issues all covered under warranty after 4 years of ownership. The car is amazing, a little too good actually. I am having a tough time finding a good replacement. I have a '22 M4 convertible on order (had an S5 cab prior to the M550) but I am not sure if the M4 is really an upgrade. The M550 has a great balance of luxury and performance for non track applications. I also have a Miata that I drive on nice weekends.

Only issue I've had this far was a slight bend in one wheel (668), but I came from a F10 as well and that was a common problem for the m-sport wheels on the F10's too, so I expected it.

I came from an F10, but it was a 535xi and I will tell you that car was the first BMW I did not have to bring to the dealer once for warranty work, but that's what you get with the uber reliable BMW I6's.
Yes, you will have issues here and there with the M550 as I am probably sure you did with the N63 or N63TU (depending on your year) with the F10. Nothing catastrophic, but annoying. Coolant and Coolant Turbo line issues, some oil consumption, the grill thing (all models though). Wheel bends and tire failures come with the territory and not specific to the M550, but the 668's will bend easy if you hit something hard. I would only go CPO with Wheel and Tire insurance. The stuff I mentioned is minor (somethings like the grill they extended the warranty on), but out of warranty cooling system issues will cost you. Just my rule of thumb, never drive a newer BMW out of BMW warranty. I am sure there are aftermarket warranties out there, I just rather have the BMW warranty attached to my VIN.

For what it's worth, I just got rid of the Pirelli run-flats for some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S4 and it is an incredible change. More comfortable, less noise, and more grip in all conditions. I'd consider that too if you haven't.
