I have to say after owning my M550i for a year and a half, I still look forward to driving it. This car checks all the boxes… comfort, ease of use, super fast sedan and it sounds awesome. I get compliments on it all the time. A lot of people approach me and ask questions about it. I’m kind of surprised about that, because it looks like a low-key car to me, but I guess the enthusiast know what it is.

Anyway, I just wanted to comment about how much I still love this car. Usually after a year and a half, I could care less about my daily driver… sorta like my old girlfriends. For me, money well spent.

Right there with you brother. I too have a long history of getting bored, novelty wearing off, and trade-ins. Not this car.

Ditto. 2 years in, I still look forward to every grocery trip and office commute. And the drive is one of the main highlights of vacation road trips. Never felt this way about my last two bimmers. They achieved something special with this one.

This is great to hear. I set out with the idea of keeping this car a long time, which would be contrary to my history. I’m optimistic that I can buck the trend!

I still felt the same way about the 540 when I sold it after a year. If there was no such thing as an M550, I’d still have the 540 and be happy. I don’t see why the M550 experience would be any different.

Yes same for me
I was happy to keep my 540 , great car but now that I have my 550 which I’ve had for 4 months now I feel the same
Always look forward to driving it, it feels special and I have that inward smug feeling knowing that I have a huge amount of performance under my right foot

This is a keeper for me as I currently do not have any intention to go the EV route ( not practical for me and have no interest in EV from a driving pleasure point of view. )
Similarly no interest in the g60 and more than glad that I got one of the last m550s in the U.K.

It’s truely a great car which somehow seems to have slipped by under the radar. A future classic? Time will tell.

Am taking to the dealers in a couple of days though as I’ve encountered a couple of large potholes and I think I can sense a slight vibration so getting it checked out. An excuse for another drive in it!

They really did with the M550 specifically. Although I love all the G30 versions, I can't say that I would be as content with a 540 as the M550 would always be haunting me, so I likely would have done what NGT2 did.

With the M550, they really came super close (surprisingly) to a real M car. Kind of like the 633csi which is pretty much considered M6 territory. I think that is what makes it so special and something we look forward to driving daily or on long trips, etc. I hope BMW continues this, but I do think the M550 had to hurt M5 sales a bit.

I learned a long time ago to get the best car in the line-up and I know "best" is subjective, but for me it means power and aggressive trims. When I had not done this is where the urge to be in that M550 next to me on the highway sets in. I mean no disrespect to the 540, but there are so many things on the M550 that set it apart from the other G30's, including M550 only options.

I do think it will be a future classic, maybe way in the future, but between it being the last all ICE V8 5-series and the well thought out technology, styling and engineering....I think it may distinguish it as a classic someday.

I've only put 2,000 miles on mine this year. Enough to enjoy it for me and enough to keep it under 100k miles when it is 20 years old, like my E39 was at 18 years old, I broke 100k on that a few years ago.

I also think they did a fantastic job with the styling of the G30. Certain times of the day the way the sun shines on it, the lines pop like crazy and I think it looks awesome. I think this look will be timeless… I also can’t say that about many cars.

From what I see, I prefer the look of the G30 over the G60. The G60 to me is kind of weird, they did some super curvy smooth styling on the sides, but very rigid straight geometric lines in the front. I don’t know really how to describe it, but it doesn’t flow well for me….and I don’t think it’s one of those things that will grow on me over time.

2 years already with my 2021 M550i. Let me be very honest that IMO this car is not the best in any aspect, drivability, handling, steering, exhaust, comfort, interior, exterior. But it is good enough in combination of all these aspects that I can’t find a replacement at same price level. Otherwise I would’ve got rid of it.
