Tire suggestions appreciated. Tired of my RFTs..

Hello! I have a 540i m-sport package with the 19" rims. What recommendations of non run flat tires do you have (all season preferred as I am not the most motivated at switching rim sets and will end up not doing it). Also, do non rft reduce rims bending when hitting a pot hole? While this isn't my first rodeo with having a BMW RFTs, it is getting really silly with the amount of times I have bent a rim or busted out a sidewall on my 540i with (I think eagle sport) all season 245/40/R19. I once again purchased the tire protection package & again been worth the cost. It is a bit embarrassing to admit, but since taking delivery in April 2017, I have bent 7 rims and had 5 tires replaced. I think. Problem is I am running out of the max payout for the insurance policy and the way things are going.... you get the picture. Thanks.

I have the following all season tires on all of my cars and we love them. I live in Chicago and tested these on all wheel sizes during winter season, including 22" tesla wheels and 20" m550 wheels.
Continental DWS 06
The good thing that if you buy them from tirerack, they give you a 2 year road hazard coverage that is actually useful... I tested it many times. This way you do not have to go over the max on your wheel and tire coverage plan and only use them for wheel repairs.

You can also go up a profile, i.e. 245/45-19, to get some extra wheel protection (and comfort).

I would like to do similar but I have a question: I don't have room for a spare in the trunk since I bought my 540i sport with RFTs. What does everyone do about not having room for a spare tire?

I bought a 540i M sport with RTF but ordered the optional low profile spare, jack & case only $150 ( a bargain in BMW world). I goes into the existing trunk with a fake bottom cover that brings it up to trunk lid hight. Another post has pictures. Maybe you can order from BMW parts or dealer can do as dealer installed option since up haven't picked it up yet. Good luck.

I have the OEM tire mobility kit, hoping i will never have to use it

Don't want to jinx it but it's been more than 8 years i'm driving my BMWs without a spare tire and no bad luck so far.

Winter tires are RFTs though.

Agree. Knock on wood, I have had a Mini Cooper S, a Porsche Cayman, an M4, and five motorcycles which have been driven all over the country without the need for a spare tire. I carry a DynaPlug kit, some tire goop, and an air pump. So far, so good. I have Goodyear RFT's on my new M550i, and don't dislike them so far. But, if they do not wear very well or I begin to have other problems, I will probably go with Michelin PS4S non-RFT for my next tire. If you are looking for all season, my wife has Michelin PS3AS on her E350, and they are fantastic.

I called my BMW dealership about going up to the 245/45-19 and he said they would not fit. The 45's are about $800 dollars cheaper than the 40's in the Sottozero 3.

I was also thinking about going to a non-run flat for winter.

They will definitely fit.

But the dealer wont recommend a tire size that is not OEM size for your car.

There is members on this forum with 7 Series wheels and tires, for 19" that means 245/45-19.

I've had go-flat Michelin Pilot Sport variants on E46 330i (5 years and no flats), E90 M3 (7 years, no flats) and F30 340i (2 years) all without a spare. The only time I ever got a flat was when I had the OE run-flat Bridgestone S001 on the F30. Since switching to Michelin PS 4S on the F30, no flats. I carried a Continental Conti Comfort Kit 12V portable air compressor from Tire Rack and a plug kit in the F30.

My G30 540i was ordered with the spare tire so I can switch to go-flats, but also will carry the Conti Comfort Kit. I highly recommend go-flat tires and the Conti Comfort Kit or the BMW M Mobility Kit. As for tires, I've used Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my E39 5er and would expect the current gen to be equally excellent as an A/S tire.

My car came 5 days ago with spare tire and run flats. I love the two compartments to store stuff. It all comes out in 2 seconds.
