Whew! Talk about bland design language . . . .

A shame, really. Mercedes-Benz used to have such presence.

E-Class is garbage.....absolutely no presence on the road, at all (meaning non-AMG models). Every time I see a new one it looks so boring.

It's bad enough you can't tell the difference between the E and C.....but in general it's just not aggressive looking, at all.

I much prefer the previous W212 E-Class made until 2016 that still looked like a proper MB inside and out.

Not a fan of the current iteration. Only MB fanboys would pick it over a G30 5-Series and taxi cab drivers.

I don't like Mercedes sedans with rounded rear ends. Reminds me of Korean "Luxury" cars from the 1990s and early 2000s.

Kia Amati anyone?

To me Mercedes stopped making superb automobiles after 1989.

Remember their slogan back then?

"Engineered like no other car in the world"

How the mighty have fallen...

Pales in comparison to their hallmark slogan from back in the day:

"Engineered like no other car in the world"

I completely agree, I have a really hard time telling if a car is an e class or c class until I can see the badge on the trunk. IMO, the only car they make with real presence is the S Class.

Agreed....the facelift W212 was actually not bad looking. It doesn't help that the new E has horrible wheel choices. Normally the AMG Sport package cars had good wheels still (not talking about E43, etc....but the E350/E550 Sports). It's like they gave up on it. The E63 is nice......but it's 100x more aggressive looking than the normal ones.

To me the S, E and C, all have too similar looks, in particular the rear ends. From a distance, it is hard to tell the difference.

Not true, imo the cabin of the E-Class blows the 5 series out the water. Most people agree with this point too, if you watch any comparison of the cars the reviewer will almost always say the interior of the MB is better. In terms of looks I like the exterior of the 5 series better but the MB is not bad at all. Yes, the C, E, and S Class may look similar, however many 5 series drivers complained to BMW about their cars looking too similar to the 3 series. That's one of the reasons BMW differentiated the looks of the G20 from the G30. In terms of sales, the E-Class has sold better consecutively since 2009 in the US than the 5 series and A6.

The interior looks better in picture but not in real life. Almost all the reviews also complain of the poor quality of materials in E series. There is elegance to 5 series interior that E class lacks. 520d has won Whatcar of the year in successive two years for this segment in the UK. Though I do not have hard facts, but in the UK you hardly see E class and they are flinging them out on cheap lease

It’s ironic that BMW decided to differentiate the 3 from the 5 to satisfy the 5 drivers because as a g30 5 series driver I prefer the G20 3 series styling a lot more. It’s bolder more athletic and less bland and soft vs the 5.

And since the new M3 will be available with a manual and that’s gone from the 5, I’ll be “downgrading” to the 3 series when my lease is up

Set in both E450 and 540 would say E450 had a more luxury yacht feel to it, my wife loves it though glad she defer the final decision to me otherwise I would probably end up with E450 instead 540

That's fine. I have nothing against the 3er or G20. I came from an E90 to a G30 and very happy with the switch.

E Class is a taxi cab. It is built for that purpose.

Rode a current gen E Class taxi in Copenhagen last August and the car looked and felt cheap. It remind me of a Ford Crown Victoria. Opening and closing the doors reminded me of a Dodge Intrepid from the 1990s. Just horrendous.

Not impressed with the cabin or rear seat room. That car had nothing on the G30, worlds apart cabin quality and finishing.

The year before I took a W212 cab station wagon in Germany and that vehicle looked and felt more like a MB should. This new E Class is junk (in despite to the BS Car and Driver wants to fed us about the E Class being a better car than the 5-Series).

I test drove an E before buying my 540i. Everything you said is true. In fact my wife's previous E200 felt better. Same with the W205, it is nowhere near a F30 ito feel and build quality.

Demanding, yes. We test drove an E300 earlier this year. My wife usually prefers MB. This one was thoroughly unimpressive. I have to assume that the E400 would be better, but comparing the MB 4 cylinder to the BMW 4 cylinder, the MB is feeble.

MB 4 cyl is noisy and underpowered. Reviews confirm this.

Funny that Car and Driver 10 best only recommends E450 and E63 AMG.

yea, the E class taxi is like the lowest possible trim, go to your MB dealer test drive a E450 I don't think your will find the interior disappointing in any way (you might not like it but that's different story)

In terms of rear leg room, without going to S class/7 series, the only one that seriously has longer leg room then anyone else in same ish segment is Volvo S90, though I have to say the Volvo interior feels "cheap"... it's a clean IKEA look (which is fine), but the material feels only ok.

E450 has more hp, though honestly I can't tell during test drive vs. 540... though the steering/ride is definitely undoubtedly "Mercedes"
