I wish we had the 4 zone in the US. My kids would have really appreciated it.

If you are living in Sri Lanka, not sure it'll make much of a difference given the external temperatures year around.

I am not so sure about about giving kids access to more buttons to play with in the car.

TBH. I don't even use 2 zone climate control. I just keep it synced. I find it not very useful as the cabin is so small that changing the temperature doesn't really make a drastic difference.

Same here. I keep mine synced all the time.

Also the touch screen on the 4 zone system seems prone to develop lines across the display requiring a full replacement under warranty.

Multiple temperature zones make more sense in vans, large SUVs, etc.

My 540i that is due late January 2019 has 4 zone climate as my kids enjoy more cooler air blowing on them in the back than I do in the front so it works out well. Plus there are extra vents in the "B" pillar I believe. My Current car (Toyota Landcruiser Sahara has 4 zone climate and the kids love it - could not ask them to take a step backwards in the new car).

I think in Australia, regardless of whether you have 2 or 4 zone climate in the 540i the car comes as standard with the colour touch screen in the front. I'm not sure what sort of controls they have in the rear however. My car will have rear seat heating and rear climate, maybe someone who also have these options fitted may post a picture as I'm curious as to what it looks like. (the online manual does not provide much info on this).

They will have duplicated non touch screen HVAC controls for rear left and rear right passengers:

thank you for the pics. They look good, very happy with that.

I must study the manual some more as I just hope I have overring control of the rear climate from the front as currently the Kids turn the temperature down to sub zero when they are in the car and leave it there. In the current car I can turn rear off or adjust from the front should I wish. Presume the BMW will permit the same.

BUT....like the way it looks, very neat and easy

Agree to that.
I had it in my F06 650GC, my kids kept on playing around with the temp, I thought something is wrong when my AC didn't get as cold.
Turned out the kids cranked up the heater in the back.

You can turn the back seat vent panel off from the iDrive. Then the kids can do nothing

Defeats the whole point of paying for it

Not really, when the kids are in the car, I am happy to have them adjust their own climate, and compromise my comfort somewhat. When the kids get out of the car, via Idrive I would like to turn the rear seat off and not have to compromise my comfort. Hence the question as to whether (and how easy is it) to control the rear climate from the drivers seat.

yeah, I really wanted it so my kids would be able to set their own temperature instead of me asking if they're cold or hot every once in a while

Yeah I do, just ordered a 530e with 4 Zone. I feel like the extra vents in the back make a difference.Thanks.

I have it on mine, and will definitely get it in future if available.

My kids always complain it is too hot in the back, so now they can adjust it themselves. I have found, in mid summer especially, that the rear of the car doesn't get as well ventilated as the front.

I can definitely recommend it.

The iDrive I had in my 2016 X5 that I just returned had the option to turn off the rear air, but my brand new 2019 M550i with 4 zone air doesn't have this option 😕

Can anyone confirm something for me on their G30 regarding climate control? (Note: I might be just going insane).

I can under no circumstances get the drivers climate off whilst leaving the passengers on. So if the passengers climate is on, the drivers has to be as well. The on button (either pressing in Auto or the fan increase button), turns both sides on when operated from each side.

The only individual way of turning one side off, is using the "Off" button on the passengers side.

I'm just wondering if any other G30 owners can confirm this is how it's supposed to work and is normal.

I suspect it's because the driver has priority of course, which would be normal, I'm just not sure if it was always working this way since I did a coding change (Auto stop start memory, etc).

No, you aren't going insane. You can either turn off Aircon both sides or passenger side. There's no setting for turning off the driver side while the passenger side stays on.

4 Zone is 110% worth it. We refused to order our F10 LCI 550i xDrive without it!
