540i/xDrive MPPSK Is Available Now

I have been in contact with my dealer for ages checking availability of MPPSK.

Today i saw in a german forum that it is finally available.

I had ordered MPE long ago but it was out of stock and i was told it would not be available till 10th August.

Right after i saw MPPSK is now available i called my dealer and cancelled the MPE order and ordered MPPSK instead. They confirmed availability, expect to receive it in two weeks.

As most of you know, kit includes rear silencer, tune and an upgraded torque converter (and some stickers that go in the engine bay).
And you have to buy rear bumper trim and exhaust tips along with the kit, those are not included in the kit.

Part numbers for the MPE and Exhaust that comes with the kit are different by the way.

I dont like the idea of changing torque converter in a brand new car but went with the kit anyway.

It cost me around 3500 Euro including install. Much cheaper piggybacks are already available but for peace of mind i went oem.
The car is too quiet for me and i was going to buy the MPE anyway. As the kit is around 980 Euro more, i did not hesitate to go ahead with the purchase.

Wanted to share just in case anyone is interested.

I am interested in your opininon about exhaust and kit. My dealer told me that it will significantly increase fuel consumption.
3500 euro is with everything or just kit and exhaust?

Everything is included in that price ; tune, exhaust, torque converter and install.

Edited to say rear bumper trim and exhaust tips are also included in the price.
Fuel consumption is same by the way, it does not increase with the kit unless your driving style changes.

Yes, the kit does not include bumper trim and exhaust tips. You need to buy these separately.

Unbelievable!
I was hopping that cars with M Sport do not need a new bumper trim and exhaust tips, but it seems they do... Simply incredible.

I find it strange that BMW does not offer sport exhaust as a standard option in the configurator. That would be a win win situation for BMW and customers (no hassle for buyers, more profit for BMW). But instead of doing this, they are forcing you to replace half of the car and keep a bunch of extra parts

You are right, that would make much more sense.

It would cost me 3x more though

We pay 207% tax here for cars if the engine is bigger than 2.0L
When i buy the exhaust as spare part i pay only VAT

Some may find annoying but i enjoy it.

I can imagine some people may call the sound between 1500-2000 rpms drone but i would not say there is drone. I can drive hundreds of kilometres with it and would not be annoyed.

I am loving it. I did take a 1300km trip and enjoyed every minute of it

Comfort mode is good around neighborhood, sport plus at all other times

Very happy with it, much better than i expected.

I am loving it. I did take a 1300km trip and enjoyed every minute of it

Comfort mode is good around neighborhood, sport plus at all other times

Very happy with it, much better than i expected.
I installed MPE in my G31 and I love it. It could be even little bit louder. I am thinking about kit-do You think it is worth it? Will I feel this 20hp+?

@kaakti the characteristic does change, it revs easier and pulls stronger all the way to red line.
I dont know if it is part of the tune or you get it anyway with also just MPE but burbles when you let off throttle in sport mode are also a nice add on

I was also thinking it should have been just a bit louder but whenever i have friends driving behind me they say the exhaust sounds crazy good and loud. A bit more and then it would be too much i guess, for me at least.

5100km on the clock and averaging 13.5L/100km

Consumption has not changed after the kit.

Best so far is 8L/100km (highway, on a route with many speed cameras)

Worst i have seen is 24L/100km (a recent short trip on the highway that speed limiter kicked in quite a few times)

I know this is an old thread, but would you still say that there is not a drone when cruising at 1500-2000 rpm?

That is my biggest concern - I want it to be almost the same as standard if I am in comfort mode just cruising on the motorway, but it can be as loud as it wants when I put my foot down in sport mode.

*EDIT* its not actually that old a thread at all!

Yes, having driven ~3500km after the kit, i can confirm there is no drone when cruising at 1500-2000 rpm.

There is a more pronounced sound within this rpm range when cruising but i would definitely not call it drone. Not disturbing at all.

How are you finding the difference in power/torque?

In sport mode, is the car noticeably quicker?

I had a chance to drive a 540i with a Racechip today and in midrange, it pulls much harder. I switched the RC on and off a few times to test and was impressed. Top end seemed no quicker but that is not where we need the power, and if it was quicker it would be hard to tell at those sorts of speeds.

I want to go OEM but I am doing it for the power, so I am wondering if (after trying a 540i with Racechip) I will think the MPPSK is not enough.

Pulls noticeably harder in low and mid range. More eager to rev now in high gear low rpm when you push the throttle a bit. Top end also improved. Keeps pulling hard till redline.

Power jump is not very big, if you have high expectations you may be disappointed but throttle response is better throughout the whole rpm band and with the addition of the exhaust it is a much more fun car to drive.

I presume Racechip do a tune for the MPPSK?
They list the both the 340 & 360hp 540i G30.

I guess I could take the MPPSK to start me off, then add the racechip later down the line...

I REALLY want to hear an MPPSK exhaust in comfort mode. I don't wanna look like a 17 yr old giving it the beans when I drive reservedly through my quiet residential estate
