Wonderful start to my morning

Driving to work today… crossing the same set of railroad tracks I drive every single day and… BAM.

Lose all tire pressure immediately. So glad these are brand new tires….

Ignoring the 2 punctures, looks like your pressures are rather low as well

Are you sure? I thought DWS Plus were runflats?

The results look like run flats to me?

I feel your pain. I've had a few double flats like this. That sucks. Hopefully you have hazard insurance or something. I assume you had it towed right to the shop that put them on?

Had it taken to the dealership.

Not surprising the tires are shot - they're also saying the rims are bent too.

According to the dealer, they can't straighten the rims. Sound right?

Not excited about buying new 668s…

I feel your pain. I've got 19s on my car, and had 19s on my last car ('07 S600). I've had a rapid sidewall deconstruction due to potholes on both. The BMW at least had RFT on it, so that was nice. You might look into whether you can file s claim with the city and/or the railroad. There is a duty to maintain the roads. Where I live, you can file a claim, and if certain criteria are met (they knew about the pavement issue and hadn't fixed it in 3 days or more) they'll pay for the repairs. Of course they don't pay often, but it may be worth the cost of a stamp to try.

I did talk to SEPTA (rail line organization) this morning and they did tell me to keep all my receipts and they gave me a claim number.

Guess I'll try insurance and let them fight it out with SEPTA too.

I hit a nasty pothole in September and bubbled my right front runflat and also bent the rim. Same 668's. I think it depends on the bend and whether its inside or outside too. When they evaluated mine the dealership said the bend was very minor (took a video to show me with tire/wheel spinning) and said it was easily repairable.

I'd ask the dealership how bad the bend is, where it is, etc.

How did it feel when you hit that ? When I ran over that damn pothole, it felt like I ran over an IED.

My first thought was IED here a well. Huge boom. Phone came flying off my MagSafe mount. Hazards came on. Ha!

Bends are on the inside of the rim. Looks pretty wobbly when they spin the tire - of course no air in it.

Its possible your dealership doesnt have a rim straightening machine. I'd get clarification. Maybe call another BMW dealer in your area.

Sorry for your trouble. Had a similar experience to you folks. 668M w/dws06+, though it was in the fast lane on the freeway. Heard a loud bang followed by a hiss. The wheel ended up beyond repair and the undercarriage suffered minor damage as well. Luckily my insurance was able to collect from the city.

Insurance company is going out to inspect the car at BMW and we will go from there.

Good times!

Which dealer are you taking it to? I have earned a bent wheel (or at least I suspect so) from the potholes and I'm taking it into BMW of the Main Line to inquire about them straightening them out. I believe they contract it out to a reputable wheel shop in Philly.

Sorry you had to deal with this though. It is why I was so certain to only do 18" wheels on my 530e. The others look really nice, but PA roads are like a third world country. Would not be fun getting new tires and wheels every couple of weeks...

I was second guessing getting W&T insurance but this makes me feel more comfortable. I always get the insurance, but this car doesn't see winter, so was second guessing. One of these episodes pays for it.

The dealer won't straighten wheel or recommend it because it compromises the integrity of the rim, according to them. BUT, you can get them straightened outside the dealer.

I ended up getting W&T recently even though I skipped it at purchase...

But the only extra I'll add is to be sure you read the text of the policy first to be sure it covers as much as you think it would for as long as you need it to cover without limitations. The policy the dealer offered when I purchased was insufficient IMHO.

It had limitations on the number of claims and etc.

With the cost of W&T lately, one claim won't cover it... But it can be good to have in places with piss poor roads.

Hey Joe, Tulley BMW does this in house.
I specifically asked if they do it on site, or outsource it.

My SA assured me its done in house. I will have my rt front straightened when I swap out the runflats for the new PS4S tires this Spring. They also road force balance all wheels.

Great input, yes, read the fine print and go with a reputable company. I have found though, that if you buy through the dealer on delivery, there are rarely any issues with regard to interpretation and coverage. Mine was sold to me at delivery, it is from Allstate and I got the "plus" plan, which is for accidental cosmetic damage. I already used it once for some minor rash I didn't notice on delivery. I am VERY careful, but even a dip in a pothole entering a strip mall can scratch a rim.

Wow, dealers don't usually do this in house or invest in the equipment, but, that said, maybe I am out of touch and there is a lot of money in it because of how soft BMW big wheels are.

I have had a dealer tell me though that I have to buy new wheels and they can't be straightened for the reason I mentioned. BS, I know.
